My Favorite Day of The Week; Stronger Measures; Humanitarian Flights Eliminated; Day Hospital is Inaugurated; More Birds!?

Friday, August 07, 2020

Without a doubt, Friday is my favorite Day of the week. My second favorite day of the week is Monday, but we’ll talk about Monday on Monday. Fridays are like mini-New years to me. It’s a day to reflect on our successes during the week as well as our failures. It gives us time to readjust and make the changes we need to better ourselves and our paths for the following week. Friday is the day to make promises to be a better person, not unlike our wishes during the new year. I killed that deadline! I crushed those reports! I solved that problem! Yeah, however, I screwed up on my diet again and forgot to restructure that budget. But that was this week and next week will be a week of discipline, a week of intense focus.

Today, I’ll ask myself, “Hey, self, did you kick ass this week?”  And I’d damn well better have a good answer.  I must never let me down.  Friday is always my deadline.  If it’s not done by Thursday, whatever “it” may be, I’m certain for a long Thursday night with a closed-door policy.  I’ll pour myself a splash of dark amber rum, take a snoot and go until I’ve made an impressive dent.  Certainly, with a long list of tasks left unaccomplished by Thursday, there will be many a snoot to be had.

Me, concentrating on making an impressive dent as per the clear perspective of Queen Sayira

Friday is also a day to plan for projects.  I used to call them “Honey-Dos”, but “Honey” usually doesn’t give a rat’s ass what I do, as long as I do something.  So, this weekend, we’ll change some faulty spot lights that I’ve detected with my keen eye over the last few days.  The garage is getting some post-wood project buildup, so I got this nifty garage broom that I just can’t wait to take for a spin.  I have a few more toys that came in to connect together with Alexa and the Smart Home system I’m building, so I’ll definitely find some time for that.  And then there’s the hanging of every last picture, poster, doodad and thingy that Queen Sayira has asked me to hang since the beginning of the year.  She’s let me slide for months, but the Queen is starting to give a rat’s ass and you never want the Queen’s attention… …not like this, anyways.  So, seeing as I have to put up with her during quarantine, this weekend is THE weekend to appease her royal highness.

Me mustering the strength to withstand another day of kissies and Botero art impressions by the Queen.

Finally, we have chores and fun with the boys.  This is the best part of it all.  They complain about chores just like all kids from this timeline.  With a huuuuuuge smile on my face, just 5 minutes after breakfast on Saturday morning, I truly enjoy asking them, “Guess what we get to do today?”.  The response is intentional and simultaneous; “Aaaawwweeeeee, but we wanted to play Nintendo online with Ralph and Fluffy” (I don’t know the names of their friends, so I always invent names for them.)  “Well, boys, you’ve done great this week at school and helping Mom, so I was going to say precisely the same thing.  You deserve a weekend of playing an unbridled amount of Nintendo with George and Bucky for hours on end.”, I’ll assure them.  “Really!?!?”, their hearts beating with joy.  “Ehhh, no.  You screwed off this week AGAIN, so now you get to play an analogue version of your video games in the back yard with me, ALL… WEEKEND… LONG…  MUAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA” – The look of pain and anguish on their faces is soothing to my dark wretched soul as I lash out with an evil guffaw.

I think the best part of doing yard work with the boys is studying their interpersonal communications.  It doesn’t take much to pit them against each other.  Actually, I don’t have to do anything at all.  All I have to do is interject collaboration and it is DEFINITELY game on!  “Boys, all I need you to do is to work together at getting this recently trimmed grass and pruned tree limbs from their present location strewn across the yard over to the garbage bins strategically and cumbersomely located at the front of the house, purposefully done as to render you unable to concentrate and to furthermore take your physical frustrations out on one another.  Are we clear?”  Then I’ll pretend to do some parallelly important, supporting work, all the while monitoring their stress levels as they mitigate rakes, wheel barrels, garbage bins and other foreign garden tools.  I wait.  I listen.  I pray.  Then suddenly I hear it begin, “Brandon, stop poking at that dead bird and help me lift this!!!!!!”, Brett Jr rages. “But I think it may still be alive and I have to save it.”, Brandon lazily addresses his brother.  “It’s full of maggots and stinks like grandma’s feet!  Dude, it’s like deader than Abraham Lincoln!”, Brett’s rage-o-meter skyrockets.  Definitely time for Dad to engage before Brett raises the rake in a fit of anger.  “Hey guys, how are you doing over there?”, I’ll enquire.  They both look over towards me as I pretend to adjust a thingamabob, “We’re goooooood.”, they’ll lie.  Their blood pressure drops as they realize that I’m still amongst the living (unlike the bird) and actually paying attention to their turmoil.

In the blink of an eye, the morning ends and we’re blessed. In their mind, the hard labor takes all day, but we started early and culminated before noon. The overtaxed and discombobulated boys are now relieved as we gaze across our field of accomplishment, each with a chilled glass of limon con raspadura, in a state of wonderment. Their faces red from either high blood pressure or a day of hard work… …it’s hard to tell. Despite that, I think they’re slowly learning that there is a clear correlation between unnecessary cumpulsive complaining and the time it takes to finish our mundane projects. The quicker we get done, the quicker we can share a cup of success and they can get on with playing a virtual game of Nintendo with Gertrude and Madonna or whatever their names are. But to me, once again, the universe is aligned and we are no longer swayed by the nonsense that engulfs us daily.

TOP NEWS and TIDBITS

Yoli’s Summary

While fever, dry cough, and shortness of breath remain the key symptoms of COVID-19, over the last several months doctors have reported patients suffering from many other puzzling symptoms. One of them? COVID toes, an unusual rash of red-purple, tender or itchy bumps. Ever since the bizarre manifestation of the virus was recognized, dermatologists have been on high alert, looking for other skin issues that could be a result of the highly infectious and potentially deadly virus. Now, after months of documenting their findings it is becoming crystal clear that COVID-19 related inflammation of the skin may be more common than previously thought.

Woman scratching arm indoors.

It’s Called Vasculopathy

On Wednesday a new case report was published by researchers from New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical College in JAMA Dermatology, centering on four patients, aged 40 to 80, with severe coronavirus infections who also presented with skin discoloration in addition to retiform purpura, a type of skin lesions. After performing biopsies, it was revealed that all patients had a type of vasculqopathy—in other words, their blood vessels were affected. This led the researchers to believe that the skin discoloration could signify partial occlusion (blockage of blood vessels) with the retiform purpura representing full blockage. In other words, dermatological manifestations of the virus could be a clue that there is abnormal blood clotting occurring in the body.

While it isn’t new news that viral infections can lead to inflammation of the skin, they are definitely an under discussed symptom of coronavirus. Last month researchers from Kings College presented data from the COVID-19 Symptom Study app, with data from around 336,000 people. Of them, 8.8% of those who tested positive for the virus reported a skin rash as a symptom. For 17% of them, it was the first symptom they experienced of the virus, and even more startling? For 21% it was their only symptom.

It’s ‘Not Surprising’

“Many viral infections can affect the skin, so it’s not surprising that we are seeing these rashes in COVID-19,” Dr. Veronique Bataille, consultant dermatologist at St Thomas’ Hospital and King’s College London, who was involved in the pre-print study, said in a press release accompanying the not-yet peer-reviewed study. “However, it is important that people know that in some cases, a rash may be the first or only symptom of the disease. So if you notice a new rash, you should take it seriously by self-isolating and getting tested as soon as possible.”

Other dermatological symptoms that have been reported are rashes inside of the mouth and measles-like rashes.

As for yourself, avoid catching COVID-19: wear your face mask, get tested if you think you have coronavirus, avoid crowds, practice social distancing, only run essential errands, wash your hands regularly, disinfect frequently touched surfaces, and to get through this pandemic at your healthiest.

MINSA WILL TAKE TOUGH MEASURES, INCLUDING ARREST, AGAINST PEOPLE WITH COVID-19 WHO ARE CAUGHT ON THE STREET

The Minister of Health of Panama, Luis Sucre.

The Minister of Health of Panama, Luis Sucre, announced this Wednesday that a resolution or decree will be issued by means of which the actions will be tightened towards those people who insist on being on the street even knowing that they are COVID-19 positive or contacts .

Minsa works on severe measures against people with COVID-19 who are on the street. José Garibaldi

He noted that the new regulations will establish that the National Police units can arrest the offender or transfer him immediately to hospital hotels.

“We are already issuing a resolution or a decree where everyone who is on the street who is in contact or who is positive, the police have two roads with them, or arrest them and put them in jail or take them directly to a hotel hospital, there is no going back ”, emphasized Sucre.

He also indicated that Given the risk of contagion that these people represent, actions are being sought to reinforce the curfew and the surveillance points that exist in the country.

Actions will be taken at the constant complaint of people who are on the streets, even though they are contagious of the disease.

“We cannot continue allowing people who know they are positive or who know that they are contact and who are about to become positive or have not been tested, continue to put the health of other Panamanians at risk,” he said.

‘THE VIRUS IS STILL VERY CONTAGIOUS; WE CANNOT LOWER OUR GUARD’

The director of the Metropolitan Health Region, Israel Cedeño, reiterated that RT has been decreasing in Panama in the last four weeks.

The situation means that the reproductive number of cases decreases, that is, the ability of a person to infect others.

Meanwhile, since the start of the pandemic, it has been explained that the ideal is for the RT to be one or below one.

Furthermore, the speed at which cases occur is decreasing, according to Cedeño.

However, the virus is still contagious and people continue to spread. Due to the large number of cases, over a thousand that are reported daily, the director of the Metropolitan Health Region said that it must be remembered that many are due to accumulated evidence.

Against this background, what is most worrying is the “erratic” and changing behavior of COVID-19.

“The virus is still very contagious, we cannot let our guard down,” he insisted. The metropolitan area continues to be the point where the most cases are reported.

Cedeño recalled that this virus is here to stay and must be watched for many years.

He maintains that despite the fact that a vaccine is found, the only thing that can prevent future outbreaks will be prevention.

The doctor said that there is a small part of the population that does not use masks well, but in general, Panamanian society is creating more awareness in the prevention of the virus.

PANAMA ANNOUNCES ELIMINATION OF HUMANITARIAN FLIGHTS RETURNING TOPANAMA

The president of Panama, Laurentino Cortizo, announced this Wednesday that humanitarian flights for nationals will be “eliminated” as of next week and that only a negative COVID-19 test will be required to enter the country.

“Those humanitarian flights that were coordinated for Panamanians, from next week will cease to exist,” the Panamanian president told reporters.

Nationals and residents who wish to enter Panama must deliver a negative COVID-19 swab test result 48 hours in advance or undergo an antigen test in the country, and make a mandatory quarantine for fourteen days, as measures to avoid the contagion. Cortizo also announced that the Tocumen International Airport, the country’s main airport, will be maintained as a “mini humanitarian hub”.

“Please, let’s use the transfer airport,” the president told reporters. Last Friday, the Government approved a decree, which came into force that same day, allowing the limited opening of Tocumen Airport, an important connection center for the region.

Only passengers on humanitarian flights are allowed to leave Panama, as well as limited transit of passengers through the airport, in terms of number and links, as long as their connections do not exceed six hours between the arrival flight and the output.

The Ministry of Health (Minsa) is in charge of regulating the entry of passengers and will have the authority to authorize or reject the entry of flights into the country, “taking into account the level of spread of COVID-19 in the country, the epidemiological status of the country of embarkation, the number of passengers and their health condition. ” The flights must be presented and communicated by the air operators to the Civil Aeronautical Authority.

The decree establishes that “all Panamanian and resident foreigners who enter the national territory through these flights must submit to the sanitary and biosafety protocols established by the Ministry of Health.”

Since it was imposed on March 22, the Government of Panama has extended the suspension of international flights four times due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which will continue at least until next August 21.

CCIAP WARNS THAT SLOWNESS IN MAKING DECISIONS MAY CREATE A BURDEN FOR SEVERAL TRADES TO OPEN

The activity of the reactivated construction in the interior could not be restarted due to the increase in procedures according to the Cciap.

The president of the Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture of Panama (Cciap), Jean Pierre Leignadierpointed out that the authorities must be faster when making decisions in the implementation of reopening of commercial activities to avoid the closure of these.

“We have to be much faster in being able to achieve the implementation of those measures, even in some way of trial and error of situations that we are seeking to implement in order to follow up on it and see if we can continue in this reopening process, but five weeks from now very few results of that monitoring … After more than four months of closure there is activity that meets a risk of not being able to open, there are companies that are not going to be able to open the closings of companies,” Leigandier emphasized to Radiography.

The businessman pointed out that they need to have the results of the measures implemented, such as the effects of the four Saturdays of total quarantine in Panama and Panama West, what they have influenced and how they will help reactivation.

The businessmen sent a letter to the Minister of Commerce and Industries, Ramón Martínez, requesting the change in the methodology for taking the reopening measure, in this sense Leignadier said that this afternoon they will meet at the working table to discuss this approach.

It should be noted that Leignadier questioned the authorities’ decisions, such as that the reopening of the construction industry in the interior could not be made effective; since an element was added that consists of requesting another authorization from the Ministry of Health and that has delayed the entire reactivation process.

In addition, he reiterated that they were present at the progress table where they learned about the reduction of the reproductive number of COVID-19 to 1.13, but they do not know from the Government how this will benefit the economic reactivation.

The president of the Cciap indicated that each week they present in the work tables the impact matrices of the subsectors that make up the economy in the indicators for decision-making on the reopening of companies, but they do not see significant progress.

So far they have presented the possible reopening of more than 10 activities to reactivate.

MODERN HAS RECEIVED $ 400 MILLION IN DEPOSITS FOR COVID-19 VACCINES

Los inversionistas están esperando para ver si Moderna llega a un acuerdo para vender un gran suministro.

Moderna said it has so far received $ 400 million in deposits for the potential supply of its Covid-19 vaccine as part of talks with several countries.

On Tuesday, the company’s second-quarter results report did not reveal many details about where the supply is coming from and what the price is.

Investors are waiting to see if Moderna reaches an agreement to sell a large supply of its vaccine to the United States.

While rival Pfizer has already reached that deal, priced at just under $ 40 for a two-shot regimen.

In the large Phase 3 trial of Moderna’s Covid-19 vaccine, the company said it is on track to complete enrollment in September.

The pharmaceutical laboratory is competing with Pfizer, which has a similar vaccine, to finish the trial first and have results. The faster patients enroll, the sooner the results will be known, other things being equal.

MINSA ENSURES THAT DIETS OF PATIENTS WITH COVID-19 IN HOSPITALS MEET REQUIREMENTS

The Minsa’s statements come after the Nutritionists Association denounced failures in the balance of meals.

The Ministry of Health (Minsa), through the director of Nutrition, Celestina Delgado, announced that this department reviews the diet that is provided to patients with COVID-19 confined in hospitals and housed in shelters and hotels.

“Feeding both in hospitals and in shelters is done through specifications that establish the type of food and type of diet and a series of requirements are required from the provider and among them they must have a nutritionist in charge of their service,” said Delgado.

The director stressed that in each hospital there are nutritionists, those who review the diet of patients and the Food Service sends orders to providers according to the prescription made by the treating doctor according to the comorbidities of each person incarcerated, either low in sugars, sodium or fat.

Statements by Ms. Delgado came after the Association of Nutritionists of Panama pointed out that medical facilities and shelters that house patients with coronavirus are not being given adequate food.

EVERY HOUR A CHILD OF COVID-19 IS SPREAD IN THE COUNTRY

In the Children’s Hospital, since the pandemic began last March to date, they have treated 153 positive patients, of whom 65 required hospitalization, according to medical authorities.

Statistical reports from the Ministry of Health (Minsa) show that between March and August, about 4,000 children between 0 and 10 years have been infected with Covid-19. This suggests that about 27 infants are acquiring the virus per day.

Unlike the adult population, very few children are requiring hospital care, although they are aggravated when they have some risk factor such as chronic diseases.

Paul Gallardo, director of the Children’s Hospital, explained that, since March 9, when the first case was detected in Panama, to date, they have received 153 infants with the Covid-19, of whom 65 had to be hospitalized . In addition, two died.

Gallardo stressed that they have had to enable other rooms to house patients with the virus and thus avoid infections within the pediatric hospital.

Virus affects children with risk factors

Covid-19 has also had its effect on the child population, although to a lesser extent than the adult population. Its impact is much greater in children with risk factors.

Paul Gallardo, director of the Children’s Hospital, stressed that in these almost five months of pandemic they have treated 153 positive patients, of whom 65 required hospitalization because they presented some risk factors.

“They are also children with other diseases. In some caseswe have had to use corticosteroids or mechanical ventilation to reduce inflammation or supply air, respectively, “explained the pediatrician.

General Statistics

Although the virus attacks the adult population more, the statistics of the Ministry of Health specify that between March and so far in August, around 4,000 children between the ages of 0 and 10 have been detected across the country. Although a minimum number requires hospital care.

Gallardo said that 2 infants have died from Covid-19 so far, and to attend to the positives they reconverted several areas of the hospital, such as the emergency room into an isolation room. In this way they are separated from the rest of the patients.

“The hospital has separate areas to avoid massive contagion. If we find a room with positives, what we do is close it for 14 days and disinfect it, then reopen it, “he said.

Due to this new experience, the also pediatrician said that it would be opportune to include within the new project of the Children’s Hospital, which is in the contract preparation phase, an area to attend pandemics or the appearance of other viruses.

In fact, he indicated that they already suggested it. “The new hospital must provide facilities to the Health system, in the face of any new virus or pandemic,” said the director, who said he was optimistic that the work of the new hospital will begin this year.

Following a request from the medical authorities of the pediatric center, the Infrastructure director of the Ministry of Health, Sion Atencio, indicated that among the Government’s plans is to start the work of the new hospital before the end of the year.

“There is already a budget for this year. Right now it is in the phase of ending the contract, “said Atencio, who stressed that within the project and as part of the new hospital’s functional plan, spaces can be included to prepare for new pandemics, as Gallardo suggested.

Aggressive syndrome

Inside the Children’s Hospital they have detected three patients in serious condition and with new symptoms associated with this virus. It is the “Pediatric Multisystemic Inflammatory Syndrome” (MIS-C), which consists of an exaggerated inflammatory response, in which affection of different body organs occurs.

The main symptoms of this syndrome are: fever, lymphadenopathy (swollen glands), abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting, conjunctival injection (redness of the white part of the eye) and rashes that appear on the skin.

According to the World Health Organization, research indicates that children and adolescents are as likely to be infected as any other age group and spread the disease.

The evidence to date suggests that children and young adults are less likely to develop a serious illness, but serious cases can still occur in these age groups.

CORTIZO SUPPORTS APPROACH WITH VACCINE-PRODUCING COUNTRIES AGAINST COVID-19

The President of the Republic, Laurentino Cortizo, reported that this Wednesday he met with the Vaccine Committee, which is following up through direct communication with houses that are producing the COVID-19 vaccines around the world.

This, with the intention that the country receives the amount of vaccines it requires. “I recognize the effort that the Vaccine Committee has made to organize the strategy that allows us to obtain, through the factories of vaccines against COVID-19 around the world and with International Health Organizations, the quantities of vaccines that we need” Cortizo said through his Twitter account.

At the end of July, Panama signed an agreement that consolidated the formation of the Vaccine Research Consortium COVID-19 Panama, between the Institute of Scientific Research and High Technology Services (INDICASAT-AIP) and the CEVAXIN Research Center, with the Guarantee of the National Secretary for Science, Technology and Innovation (Senacyt).

This consortium is made up of a group of more than 10 health professionals, including scientific researchers, epidemiologists, nurses, laboratory personnel, pharmacists, and an advisory group with experience in research studies, to ensure that Panama has full access to the vaccine.

The national secretary of the Senacyt, Víctor Sánchez Urrutia, pointed out that “there are few populations like ours that are being evaluated, and it is important that the quality of the vaccine be evaluated for all types of ethnic groups, because this way we are sure that when the vaccine it is believed to be efficient and effective for us as well. “

“The Day Hospital will attend to patients referred to with appointments scheduled to strictly adhere to, in order to guarantee that the medication is prepared upon arrival and thus avoid the lines, in this way we will protect the patient from possible contagion and family, like health personnel,” explained Enrique Lawson, medical director of the executing unit.

He explained that in this facility, only analgesics and antibiotics will be supplied intravenously to patients who, referred to the Dr. Arnulfo Arias Madrid Hospital Complex, because this is being subject to adjustments to serve only COVID-19 patients.

The patient who arrives referred must present the result of a COVID-19 test, with a maximum of 48 hours, in addition, upon arrival the temperature will be taken and a questionnaire will be carried out to identify if there are any symptoms, this given that the Hospital Day is a coronavirus free facility.

Lawson initially added 5 patients will be treated every 2 hours, taking into account the preparation, the period of medication, the departure and disinfection of the area, so that initially 20 patients will be treated daily.

ABSENCE OF HEALTH EDUCATION STOPS THE WORK TO LOWER THE CASES OF COVID-19 IN WEST PANAMA

Arraiján is one of the areas in the country where the most cases of Covid-19 are reported.

The Institutional Director of the Social Security Fund (CSS) in Panama West, Herminia Mariscal, considered that it is not the need, but the lack of discipline of the population that prevents them from being successful in the actions they undertake to lower the cases of Covid -19, in a region that maintains the first place in the appearance of cases with the Arraiján district in the lead and in particular its townships of Arraiján, Vista Alegre, Burunga and Juan DemóstenesArosemena.

Mariscal expressed that it must be recognized that health education was lost for a long time and resume it, at a time like the pandemic caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus is not an easy task, but that together with the regional leadership of Health face.

She added that in the efforts they make to lower the cases they will now support traceability with containment, which includes setting up search and follow-up patrols with all state entities and the support of representatives of the corregimiento and other living forces in the community. to keep patients monitored and cared for from the moment they are swabbed.

LAW ON TEMPORARY WORK MEASURES ESTABLISHES A TERM FOR ACCEPTANCE OF A MUTUAL LABOR AGREEMENT

The head of the Ministry of Labor and Labor Development of Panama (Mitradel), Doris de Zapata, explained some of the attributes of Law No. 157 of August 3, 2020 that establishes temporary work measures in the midst of the COVID pandemic- 19.

Zapata highlighted that in number 1 the law indicates that it is for companies that have closed totally or partially since the National Emergency was decreed in March and will apply until December 31.

In addition, she stressed that this was created to protect, maintain jobs, prevent labor abuses and give stability to companies in the 12 articles it presents, where very specific things are presented.

One of the aspects that the minister highlighted is about the culmination of the employment relationship through the presentation of a labor agreement.

“This term is very important because there must be a written presentation that is presented to the worker; the worker will have these two days to accept the proposal if there is no response, it is understood as rejected, but the article also clearly establishes how it is resolved. each of the differences and which will be used by assumptions in the Sectional Labor Courts in an abbreviated process to also establish the guarantees of the parties,” Zapata explained.

On the calculation of the seniority premium, which is established in articles 224 and 225 of the Labor Code, it will be established in companies where there has been a reduced work day and where the contracts are suspended with the wages received in the previous 6 months or the last salary before decreeing the state of emergency.

Maternity protection

Minister Zapata explained that maternity jurisdiction is not the same as maternity leave.

“We are clearly protecting the jurisdiction of pregnant women and the child that is about to be born, since when the contract is suspended for each of these workers, the term is suspended, it means that the jurisdiction extends and can then that term that the contract was suspended, added to what is the already reactivated relationship of work for this pregnant woman,” said the minister.

Zapata added that the new law announced that new personnel may not be hired over those already hired, that is, the company may hire new personnel for new positions and not replace workers who are currently with suspended contracts, that is important because it guarantees the permanence of the jobs.

The minister added that she is following up on the measures implemented to be able to establish them in their entirety and explains that the term of the law is a benchmark as long as most of the country’s economic activities are reactivated.

END NOTES

The birds in our vicinity are a beacon of fervor and stamina.  They’re making babies like there’s no tomorrow.  It’s amazing how it took a pandemic for me to realize that birds don’t just go out once a year to frolic unhinged for a month, make a few babies and move on to do bigger and better things.  Nope, these sex-fiends are in for the long haul, looking for every opportunity, nook and cranny to reproduce.  In front of the house, we have these incredibly small, yet loud, finches chirpity chirping their way into our hearts.  But they somehow became nestled into the rafters through this ridiculously small breach in these support beams just above the car ports.  We’ve seen Mom bring food and have sadly seen one baby already fulfill its circle of life, having fallen from its perch in the last week.

In the back, we have a lemon (lime) tree that has never produced for us.  One of our previous maids planted it at the lowest point where it gets the runoff of all of the rain we get in the backyard.  From what I’ve learned, these lemons love sun and hate an overabundance of water.  Because of that, they lose on the minerals they need to flourish.  I was on a mission last weekend to take it down as I recently planted a new lime tree in a very sunny location, with the highest elevation to the back yard.  It should definitely bear fruit within a year or so.  As I spied this tree in contemplation of removing it from the backyard, considering it “useless” to my needs, I noted there was a small nest in the bush.  This plant has attracted any number of nests, from several species.  A careful review revealed something amazing.  A solitary blue egg.  Brandon, with his adoration for birds, was at my side.  “Can I see, Dad?”, he asked.  “Well, it’s in an awkward position, let me take a picture and show you.”  Then Brandon, spied something I missed.  “Look Dad, there’s the mom.”  Sure enough, there she was, a female “Sangre de Toro”, not more than 10 paces away, roosting anxiously from the border fence.  She moved her head and jumped from here to there first watching us and then watching her nest.  “Let’s move back buddy and see what she does.”, I told him.  Sure enough, with a few seconds, she was perched and caring for this lonely soul.  It’s the first time I’ve seen just one egg in any of these nests.  We decided to watch for a bit longer and Brandon confided, “I think she wants to be left alone.  She hasn’t closed her eyes once since perching.”  What a smart, considerate kid.  We strolled away, but not before taking just one more pic for your viewing pleasure.

Mr Lonely Egg – if all of Mom’s energy went into just one creature, it’s going to be the kind of the neighborhood. We can’t wait.
Momma, finally relieved that the human bozos finally left her to tend to the future king of the neighborhood.

Stay safe…  Stay healthy…  And by all means (unless you’re peaking in on a momma bird and her solitary egg) STAY HOME!!…
