How Fast is It?; Protests; Minors have been diagnosed with syndrome associated with covid-19; Watchful Neighbors; The Morning Show

Thursday, July 23, 2020

Have you ever wondered what you did with your cell phone, only to realize it was right there in your left hand… and you were using it to send a lame message to your favorite gossip companion? Or, like Queen Sayira who places her glasses on her head and then can’t find them either when she most needs them? If you’d ask me, the answers would be yes and yes. I seldom confess that to anyone, so you should feel quite special that I have.

Well, scrabbling through the piles of office work this afternoon, I realized that I had the answer to one of my questions right in front of me, just like that elusive cell phone or Sayira’s entangled eyewear.  The question, “How Fast can this virus actually infect you?”  As well as “How fast can it spread?”

My office has been working to prepare several locations prior to opening shop, for whenever the government finally gives us that “go”. As part of this process, we created a team of three security individuals, with high moral standards to install all of the equipment in several locations. One location was an office building and they were teamed with another group of Industrial Security specialists to ensure we met the standards as per government requirements. Everyone used their masks, maintained social distancing as well as could be expected in a closed environment and of course kept their personal hygiene standards as well.

I won’t get in to the detailed complications of the task.  What’s more important to point out is that 4 of the individuals working in this group of together became ill and found to be positive for COVID-19.

First, how did it happen? Although every precaution was made to protect themselves from becoming infected with the virus, they were over confident in the dining facilities. This break room, which usually holds a maximum capacity of 70 people was realigned to hold no more than 20 people at a time. Our joint team consisted of 5 people working together from June 3 to June 6. They would take their break together in the lunch facilities for a half an hour each day and during this time, they would remove their masks. Obviously, they can´t eat with masks on. They feel that the first contact was from one of the Industrial Security workers. On June 6th, this person commented to the others that his young child was sick and that they were worried it was from COVID-19. He didn’t have any of the common symptoms, nor did his wife, so they were perplexed as to how their 2-year-old was feeling ill. That same day, Saturday, I told my guys to self-quarantine just to be on the safe side.

The same evening, Saturday, June 6, one of my guys, we’ll call him “Dude A”, got a fever.  He went to the doctor the very next morning on Sunday, June 7 and they were quick to test him for COVID-19.  On June 9, he got the result that he was indeed positive for the virus.  We informed his two companions.

One June 9, “Dude B” also felt symptoms, but was quite bad off with headache, fever, nausea, body aches.  Dude B also went to the doctor the very next morning, June 10 to be tested.  He was given his results by June 13, but before this, on June 11, Dude A had already reported to be feeling better and was just waiting to get his sense of smell back.  Also, on June 11, Dude C, started his fever and also went to the doctor.  His tests came back positive for COVID-19 on June 14.

My whole 3-man team was sick because of one person.  They were in contact between June 3-6.

Dude A became ill within 1-3 days.  In all probability, he was most likely infected on day one of contact with this person.

Dude B became ill within 3-6 days.

Dude C became ill within 5-7 days.

Within 3-5 days, Dude A infected his 5-month old baby, his wife, 3 bothers and his mother.

Dude B, isolated himself from everyone, but his wife had been in contact with hm in the first couple of days and still became slightly ill with a fever that was gone within 2 days.

Almost immediately, Dude C infected his wife and child.

One person infected at least 5 people (my three employees, his own wife and his son).

This group of people, infected 9 more people confirmed at the very least.

All of this happened within 10 days.  The quarantine for each was 14 days.  No one was hospitalized, thank God.  The oldest person infected in this group was 40 years old (Dude A’s mother).  The only person that got very sick was Dude B, who fought his high fever, throat pains, loss of taste and smell, headaches and body aches for 7 days.  He did have difficulty breathing, but it was never bad enough to the point where he needed to be hospitalized.

This is just one group of people. But what I‘ve noticed with this is that it really didn’t take much for them to get infected. It was extremely easy and quick. And it spread quickly from them to their closest loved ones.

I’ve also recalled that the entire original police force of El Valle became ill and they all had to be replaced. That’s not a secret anymore, although it was when I found out. Was surprised that there was no “cerco sanitario” at the entrance to the town of El Valle. No police at all anywhere for that matter. That was 3 weekends ago and they were in the process of being fully replaced.

Personally, from what I can tell from these experiences as well as other experiences and the tendences that we’re seeing in the USA and abroad is that the quickest most effective way to get infected is through closed/poorly-ventilated areas like bars, restaurants, small offices and other similar locations. Walking down the street won’t do it. Casually passing someone in a hallway won’t do it either. It appears that the build-up of expelled air from the lungs of an infected carrier, will be the main cause of easy infection. Most people have an image of a coughing or sneezing person, releasing droplets to the air, or someone sneezing into someone else’s face. That just never happens or seldom happens.

Yoli’s Summary

All of this becomes even more complicated during a global pandemic, particularly when the virus in question is one that doctors and researchers don’t yet understand very well and when the range of possible outcomes is so extreme.

This coronavirus has so many possible symptoms, which makes parents wonder: does my child have a cold? Allergies? Could it be COVID-19? It’s hard to tell, especially if you have a child who can’t communicate his pain accurately enough to help you with a tentative diagnosis.

So if you’re stressed out about whether or not your toddler has the coronavirus, here are a few things to keep in mind.

Children may have slightly different symptoms than adults.

In general, the signs of COVID-19 in adults and children are quite similar: fever, chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, cough, shortness of breath, and new loss of taste or smell, according to the American Academy Pediatrics. But there is also some evidence that children are less likely to have a fever, cough, or shortness of breath, according to the AAP.

Additionally, children are more likely to experience stomach problems, although the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention now says gastrointestinal problems are a common sign of the disease in people of all ages.

“Children may be more likely to have gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea and diarrhea or lack of nutrition and decreased appetite,” said Dr. Margaret Aldrich, director of pediatric infection control at Children’s Hospital in Montefiore in New York City.

It was cautioned, however, against exaggerating how different symptoms can be in adults and children because at this time it is not yet well understood.

Another important note: Children continue to develop multi-system inflammatory syndrome in children. MISC is still rare, but it is still something parents should be aware of.

If you notice “extreme tiredness, shortness of breath, confusion, bluish lips, vomiting, diarrhea and / or fever that lasts more than three days,” call your pediatrician right away, said Dr. Rob Darzynkiewicz, medical director of the telehealth provider Hazel Health.

While the virus is still widespread, suppose it is COVID-19.

Children, especially young children, get very sick. Otherwise, healthy babies and young children can get up to 10 colds a year, which means that most of the time they are sipping and coughing. And yes, many cold symptoms exactly overlap with COVID-19 symptoms.

“The challenge really is that viral illnesses are very common in children and often present with fever, cough, congestion and / or gastrointestinal symptoms,” said Aldrich.

For now, Aldrich said, it’s a good idea to err on the side of caution.

“If you live in a high-risk area, with many cases of COVID, and your child develops a viral respiratory illness, I assume they have COVID and contact their pediatrician for further guidance,” Aldrich recommended. Definitely keep them away from others, he said.

All of this is especially true if you have a small baby at home.

Remind your child that being sick is not their fault. And take notes.

Darzynkiewicz said young children sometimes have the idea that getting sick is their fault, which can make them reluctant to talk about it because they don’t want to get into trouble.

“Children can sometimes experience frustration or guilt when they get sick because they think it means they did something wrong,” he said. “If you explain that everyone is sick and there is no need to be upset or sad, they may be more communicative with their symptoms.”

Also, taking good notes on what you think you are noticing in your child can help health professionals make a quick diagnosis.

“If parents can help make a list of some general symptoms their child is experiencing before seeing a doctor, this will help the doctor understand more about what is happening,” said Darzynkiewicz. “The photos and videos also help.”

Remember: When it comes to kids and COVID-19, the news is pretty good.

Although children can certainly be affected by the coronavirus, relatively few children have been hospitalized or died from the virus. There is also emerging evidence that young children are less likely to spread the disease for reasons that are not fully understood.

This is not to say that parents should not continue to take the virus very, very seriously and be cautious of any symptoms they notice.

But as many children return to child care centers and schools this fall and beyond, parents shouldn’t panic.

“Don’t forget to keep consulting your son,” said Darzynkiewicz. “Ask them how they feel and address their concerns. Children are resistant. “

Experts are still learning about the new coronavirus. The information in this story is what was known or available at the time of publication, but it is possible that the guidance on COVID-19 may change as scientists discover more about the virus. Consult the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for the most current recommendations.

PROTESTS CONTINUE AS LOCALS DEMAND SOLIDARITY BONDS

The country registered a new day of demonstrations on Thursday 23, 2020. All related to the covid-19 crisis management.

Discomfort continues in various sectors of the country due to the deficiencies regarding the delivery of the solidarity bond. This Thursday, new demonstrations were generated in the Avenida de los Mártires by residents of several condominiums that indicate that the aid does not reach them.

Both Vidal González and Alejandra Ramírez told Radio Panamá that they were deceived, since the authorities have not managed to resolve the situation, despite being the second day of the demonstration.

The complainants kept the road closed for several hours and burned tires and mattresses, demanding the presence of the authorities.

Already in the afternoon it was reported that government personnel managed to converse with the residents who were protesting on the Avenue of the Martyrs and deliver them the expected bonus

In the La Chorrera district there were also demonstrations in various sectors. A group of residents of La Milagrosa, Altos de San Francisco and Barriada San Antonio, proceeded to close the Arraiján La Chorrera Highway, causing a major traffic congestion.

As in the capital, the protesters said they did not want the bags of food, which they have denounced is not enough to meet the needs of families amid the containment measures by COVID-19.

At the same time, another group of residents in El Limón de La Chorrera proceeded to close the road near the AnclasMall shopping center. The situation caused annoyance for passers-by who could not move to make purchases, even those who were heading to the Polyclinic Santiago Barraza of the CSS, they had to walk long distances in order to receive care.

In the document, the municipality of La Chorrera specifies that this decision on the dry law is applied in response to the measures established in Executive Decree 869 of July 17, 2020.

“Prohibit the sale of alcoholic beverages during curfew hours established in Decree 869 of July 17, 2020”, is specified in the second article of the mayoral decree.

This restriction was established due to the high incidence of coronavirus cases that occurs in these provinces.

On the other hand, the mayoral decree of La Chorrera, which is signed by the mayor Tomás Velásquez, in the third article also establishes the prohibition of making noises through the use of sound reproducing equipment, sound amplifiers, similar devices and other means or systems, during curfew hours.

THREE MINORS HAVE BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH SYNDROME ASSOCIATED WITH COVID-19 IN HOSPITAL DEL NIÑO

The Children’s Hospital reported this Thursday, July 23, that three patients have been diagnosed with the pediatric multisystemic inflammatory syndrome associated with COVID-19.

Dr. Ximena Norero, an infectologist at the Children’s Hospital, explained that this syndrome consists of an exaggerated inflammatory response, in which a condition of different body organs occurs.

Norero explained that the main symptoms of this syndrome are fever, lymphadenopathy (swollen glands), abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting, conjunctival injection (redness of the white part of the eye) and skin rash, that is, rashes that appear on the minor’s skin in areas such as the chest, abdomen and extremities.

The hospital called on pediatricians and general practitioners in the country to pay special attention to children with the described clinical symptoms, so that they can be captured as soon as possible and provide immediate care.

According to the Children’s Hospital, since March to date, 122 minors diagnosed with COVID-19 have been treated, and two deaths have been reported from patients registered and treated for this virus.

SOME COMPANIES ACQUIRE ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE TO COMPLY WITH SANITARY STANDARDS

Artificial intelligence to meet health standards.

The company Sonda, like others in our country, acquire artificial intelligence consisting of fully electronic devices that streamline the entry of personnel to companies. These devices measure body temperature and send reports to supervisors. They are part of the technologies that have been used as a result of COVID-19.

Little by little, companies are acquiring these devices that are used to detect if people have a fever; it can also be scheduled for visits by non-regular company personnel.

Manual temperature meters could be replaced by these new equipment. Victor Bethancourt, manager of Sonda explained that “there are four main aspects.

One is protection from the point of view of compliance with security protocols, that a mask is used, compliance that there is a separation of two meters between collaborators, for example, that you do not enter if you have symptoms such as fever and monitoring of possible contagions. “There are already several ports and banks that have already acquired this fairly simple technology, but necessary for these times of pandemic.

THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH ELIMINATES BUFFET IN HOTELS

The elimination of the buffet service, social distancing of two meters in common areas and the mandatory use of a mask for employees and guests are some of the guidelines that public accommodation establishments must follow once the opening of block 4 is authorized.

To date, more than a thousand downloads of the sanitary protocols approved by the Ministries of Health and Labor have been carried out to allow the operation of tourist companies that since March have been closed due to the respiratory pandemic of the coronavirus (Covid-19).

To the surprise of the sector, the regulations do not regulate the number of guests that will be able to receive the lodging centers, as happened with the receptive tourism operators that will only be able to use 50% of the capacity of the vehicles to transport customers.

Lack of income

40 thousand labor contracts related to the hotel sector are suspended. The figure grows to 100,000 by adding other activities such as restaurants and the airline sector.

The tourism sector would need $ 50 million in soft loans to avoid the bankruptcy of the industry that has not generated income since March.

Armando Rodríguez, president of the Panamanian Association of Hotels (Apatel), considers that the authorities have not set a maximum number of clients for the hotels, because there is still no exact date for the opening of block 4 where the tourist sector and transport are included. aerial.

“In April we presented staggered guidelines that the sector must follow, because it is not appropriate for all hotels to open to the maximum of their capacity, because it would be unsustainable,” he said.

The sanitary protocol prohibits the buffet service to avoid the manipulation of utensils by customers, and in the case of à la carte service, the distance of two meters between the tables must be guaranteed.

Also the hotel must provide the condiments in individual packages. In the case of room service, it is indicated that the meals must be in sealed containers.

The protocol places greater emphasis on reducing physical contact between employees and customers, especially in the reception area, suggesting that the entire process be carried out through reservations and that common areas be subjected to cleaning processes every two hours.

In premises that do not have automatic access doors, the premises must leave the door open to avoid contact, but in the event that the client knocks on the door, the cleaning staff must carry out cleaning immediately.

For Rodríguez, the sanitary protocol approved by the Ministry of Health and Mitradel, reinforces the measures that were already implemented in the sector.

“Hotels affiliated with international chains have very strict protocols that already include many of the measures recommended by the authorities, and in the case of smaller hotels we are preparing a guide that will help them implement the protocol,” he explained.

As in all tourist activities, lodging centers will have to install alcohol gel dispensers in all common areas and require the use of the mask.

Opening of Tocumen

For Apatel, 2020 is a lost year and they ask the authorities to bring forward the opening of the Tocumen International Airport to launch the recovery of the sector that will be slow and prolonged.

Last week, the Civil Aviation Authority extended the suspension of commercial flights for the fourth time, which puts more pressure on the tourism industry, which together with air transport contributes more than 14% of the country’s gross domestic product.

According to Rodríguez, it is necessary to implement an awareness campaign so that the population understands that air transport is safe, as has been demonstrated with the repatriation flights.

THE NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH PROGRAM WILL BE EXTENDED TO AVOID MEETINGS AND PARTIES IN VIEW OF THE QUARANTINE

The regional director of Metropolitan Health, Israel Cedeño reported that they are working with the community, expanding the Vigilant Neighbors program towards COVID-19.

This, with the aim that the population is pending with those positive patients with the virus and the other citizens, to avoid them from holding meetings, parties or other activities “breaking the quarantine”.

Likewise, the members of the program will be waiting for the neighbor to receive social aid benefits so that he can stay at home, the regional director said in a statement.

“We know that the Panamanian in any part of the country is in solidarity, collaborates with the health authorities and is aware of his neighbor,” said Cedeño.

Regarding the virus, Dr. Cedeño explained that the behavior of the virus is that it is here to stay and is highly contagious, therefore, the work being done by “the health authorities, regional directors and the general population is vital.”

He stressed that there has been a decrease, but it is required to continue and the way to do it depends on self-care, not leaving the house, doing it using a mask and doing it strictly when necessary and appropriately, it is not using it for wearing it.

Cedeño mentioned that the strategies against COVID-19 have been strengthened and other people have been included in the traceability, such as joint patrols, house by house, not only to bring food and medicine to the patients we already know and their families, we are also doing Verification that they stay at home, because unfortunately still a small portion of the population that they know to be positive, continue to leave.

“We are strengthening community work, not only in the active search for cases, but also cleaning of common areas, health promotion, so a teamwork that we continue to strengthen, adding more people every day, to expand that positive effect that is currently having the strategy, pointed out Dr. Cedeño.

WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION HEAD REFUTES MIKE POMPEO’S ACCUSATIONS DEEMING THEM ‘FALSE AND UNACCEPTABLE’

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus

The director of the World Health Organization (WHO) described as “false and unacceptable” the claims attributed to the US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, in the sense that the UN official would have been “bought” by China.

“These comments are false, unacceptable and without the slightest foundation,” declared Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, and warned once again against any “politicization” of the coronavirus pandemic.

According to Times and Daily Telegraph publications, the US foreign minister violently attacked the WHO on Tuesday during a closed-door meeting with British MPs in London.

According to sources, Pompeo called the organization “political”, accusing Tedros of having been “bought by the Chinese government”, to whom he owes his election as WHO director-general.

The US Secretary of State even blamed the “British deaths” by covid-19 on the organization’s failures and on these alleged negotiations.

Speaking after Tedros, WHO expert Maria Von Kherkovesaid: “As an American, I have never been so proud to be a member of this organization. I am a direct witness of the work that Dr. Tedros and our teams do around the world, “he said.

Since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, registered in China in late December, the organization has been frequently criticized for its delayed responses. But it was the United States that attacked him with the most virulence, calling him “the Chinese puppet” and denouncing his condescension towards Beijing.

END NOTES

When you marry a powerful woman, you’re in for a ride.  You’re in for an education that no university could ever provide.  It’s a life experience that either gets you running for your life or lifts you to heights you would have never imagined you could reach.

Recently, we signed on to the Apple TV promotion of free TV for 12 months.  We watched a few shows, they were nice, (except for “SEE”, the queen that “prays” was a little too awkward even for us) but when we noted this one, “The Morning Show”, it was hard to not binge watch it.  It dives deeply into man-splaning, poor journalism and the specificity of the #metoo movement.  They define so precisely the differences between an actual predator vs the inappropriate behavior between consenting adults, something that I think most men wish we could talk about, but can’t because the topic is a lose-lose scenario.  The actors that they’ve brought in to take on these roles have hit these topics perfectly.  I won’t ruin it, but this show takes these difficult taboo-type subjects and gets every viewer on board.

The cast list is so ideal that I have no idea how this show could be making any money. The show is amazing but they have to be paying out the ass for them.

The Morning Show

Stay safe… Stay healthy… And by all means (unless you’re running to buy the Apple TV 4K) STAY HOME!!…
