The Weenie Screeny; Quarantine Removal; Opening of New Protected Areas; Cotel Post Office Will Open; Peppers!

Friday, October 23, 2020

So much as happened since our last newsletter.  For starters, beaches will open this weekend and Sundays are no longer quarantine days.  Quite frankly, I think I’m going to continue doing the exact same thing as I have been doing on Sundays anyways; a whole lot of nothin!   If you didn’t already notice, if you didn’t get the memo, I’ve decided to only do one newsletter per week.  Work is piling up and even though I only spend about two hours on each one, I could also be dedicating that time to writing a book.  As a matter of fact, your average book is 90,000 words long, unless you’re JK Rowling who surpasses 100,000 in each book.  I’ve written enough in these newsletters to write a book and the start of another.  So, I’ve officially started writing a book.  If you don’t want to be in it, you better damn well tell me now before it’s too late.  My goal is to write 4,000 words per week, so that should get me to a rough draft between 5-6 months.  Editing will take another 2 months.  It’s going to be fiction, with much of it being based on fact.  I also plan on adding some facts based on fiction, just like in US politics.

And speaking of US Politics… wow!  We all knew that October was going to be painful, but this has been ridiculous.  And with all the other scandals up north, I’ve lost track of who exposed themselves to whom and where…. …or why??  The newest fad of accidentally exposing one’s self during a Zoom meeting with your colleagues blows my mind.  I think it should be a general rule to only masturbate when all cameras, computers, electronics, and anything that could record you are off and faaaaaaar away.

Most corporations now instruct HR to create important blocks of training designed to tackle the most common and chronic workplace problems.  They already have the following mandatory courses:  “Don’t sexually harass your subordinates”, “Don’t sexually harass anyone else either please”, “If you get fired, do NOT, under any circumstances, gun us all down before lunch” and now, they’re going to have to add, “We told you not to show us your weenie in person, now please don’t do that during a Zoom meeting either”.  Can you imagine what the power point slide on that would be like?

Also, due to the amount of accidental weenie exposure cases during Zoom meetings, there may be a market now for special accessories.  My first thought would be based on facial recognition but would be designed to create a special filter in the event an unwanted weenie pops up on your screen.  It detects the member within a fraction of a second and a preselected filter will replace it with an object of your choice like a slice of pizza, smiley face, winky face, Shake Weight, protein shake, or whatever.  We could call it “The Weenie Screeny”.  Or on the other end of the spectrum, if you absolutely can’t wait to end your office meetings for you to express your love to yourself in a bathroom like a normal human being, there’s the “Zoom Loob” to help you get through the moment.

Now that I’ve added these colorful horrors to your weekend slumber, please enjoy your weekly compilation of Panama news.

TOP NEWS and TIDBITS

Yoli’s Wisdom

At this point in the pandemic caused by the emergence of SARS-CoV-2, we are all aware of the important role that the immune system plays in the equation. We are talking about a complex network of cells (macrophages, lymphocytes, etc.) distributed throughout the body and a set of molecules (cytokines, antibodies, etc.) that work together to defend it from pathogenic microorganisms and foreign substances.

If our body is not capable of giving an adequate response, it is exposed to the pathogens that threaten us and there is the possibility that we suffer infections or diseases. And that is where the importance of having a ‘strong’ immune system lies. Stress, lack of sleep, sedentary lifestyle or a poor diet can negatively influence your performance, so it is necessary not to neglect these aspects.

With regard to diet, it has been shown that a worse intake profile of certain micronutrients, such as vitamins (C, D and B12) and minerals (iron and zinc), is related to a higher incidence or mortality caused by COVID-19. But there are some small living microorganisms that also have a lot to contribute.

We refer to the probiotics that some foods contain – also supplements – and that when supplied in adequate amounts, promote health benefits for the host. But it is important to clarify that these microorganisms, yeasts and bacteria, must be ingested within the framework of a healthy and balanced diet.

The nutritionist Carlos Ríos shares some benefits of probiotics, which, in the case of food, the best source of ingestion, may have “benefits that go beyond the content of probiotics since fermentation can produce compounds and convert others into metabolites biologically active ”. Thus, the importance of probiotics lies in:

  • The effect on the development of the microbiota that colonizes our intestines to guarantee the proper balance between pathogens and beneficial bacteria. Balance necessary for the proper functioning of the body. The microbiota plays an important role in metabolic processes such as the control of fat and cholesterol metabolism, blood pressure or glucose metabolism.
  • Effect of probiotics in digestion processes through the production of enzymes. In addition, they improve the absorption of vitamins, mineral compounds and stimulate the generation of acids and organic compounds.
  • Some products originating from the metabolism of probiotics can show antibiotic and modulator properties of the immune system through different mechanisms.
  • Restoration of the microbiota after antibiotic therapy. In antibiotic-associated diarrhea, the use of some probiotic strains may be of interest for this problem.
  • Yogurt and fermented milk (natural, without added sugar): In addition to the probiotics present, yogurt is a source of protein, vitamins and minerals. Many of the benefits of this food have been proposed to be linked to its preventive effects on obesity, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular disease; possibly through the improvement of the microbiota. Let’s not forget either its low lactose content, which is of special interest to intolerant people.
  • Kefir: There are studies that show benefits of this food in lactose malabsorption, as well as in the treatment of Helicobacter Pylori. It also has an anti-inflammatory effect.
  • Soy derivatives (tempeh, natto, and miso): Many of the proposed benefits include antidiabetic, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antihyperlipidemic effects attributable to the presence of bioactive compounds.
  • Fermented vegetables (olives and pickles): The microorganisms responsible for fermentation are different. Furthermore, the presence of phenolic compounds, peptides and vitamins are responsible for its antioxidant activity.

“It is common to confuse probiotics with prebiotics. However, the latter are not ‘living organisms’ like probiotics are. Prebiotics are carbohydrates of various structures that stimulate the growth of bacteria. Therefore, prebiotics have enormous potential to modify our microbiota when consumed together with probiotics ”, explains Ríos.

“Fruits, vegetables, cereals, legumes, etc. they are the major sources of prebiotics in our diet. When probiotics such as yogurt and prebiotics such as fruit are combined in the same meal, for example; the combination could provide both compounds of interest and others such as high-quality proteins, fatty acids and a mixture of vitamins and minerals that have the potential to exert synergistic effects on health ”, concludes the nutritionist.

EMPLOYERS REINTEGRATE WORKERS UNDER THE FIGURE OF PROFESSIONAL SERVICES; MITRADEL WARNS ABOUT POSSIBLE FINES AND SANCTIONS

Penalties could be five times the employee’s salary.

The Ministry of Labor and Labor Development (Mitradel) continues with different operations to verify the legal status of the employees of the businesses that have opened their doors after the COVID-19 pause.

This Tuesday, the deputy minister of this government entity, Roger Tejada, in the company of officials from the Labor Inspection Directorate, visited the businesses located at the Tocumen International Airport.

The inspectors pointed out that one of the anomalies they have found is that the companies have reinstated their collaborators without activating their contract.

“I am going to send this message to employers as a warning from Mitradel. They are having employees working who do not have their contracts activated, it is an illegal activity that is sanctioned by the Labor Code,” said the director of the Directorate of Inspection of Work, Carlos Landero.

He added that companies pay their collaborators less, because they tell them that they are going to receive a bonus.

“It is a bit unfair that workers are providing professional services for the same job, earning less salary and being suspended. On top of that the Government pays a bonus that it should not pay, because the legal thing is that they reactivate the contract. Employers pay them. less, because they tell them they are going to receive a bonus, “added Landero.

The official said that he will ask the higher office for a resolution to punish businessmen who behave outside the law.

With this resolution, violators could be sanctioned up to five times the salary of the workers.

Landero pointed out that, of every 10 inspections, six show these irregularities.

SHOPPING CENTERS WILL REOPEN ON SUNDAYS

Panama shopping center.

With the lifting of the total quarantine on Sundays, the shopping centers will reopen their doors to the public this day of the week.

Erick Zamora, spokesman for the Association of Shopping Centers, stated on RPC Radio that they will be providing customer service at 11:00 a.m. at 7:00 p.m.

“We are already preparing, we are opening doors to the public from 11:00 a.m. at 7:00 p.m. which is more or less aligned to what the Government had requested in the time slots of the activities with the standards of the security protocols that had been previously requested and with great expectation that it will become a familiar place and that people can come and take advantage of that day also to attend to other needs that were being compressed for Saturday, ”said Zamora.

On the other hand, he announced that, since September 28, when the shopping centers were reactivated in person, there has been a gradual increase in terms of commercial movement.

“At the moment it has been growing, the reports in some cases are positive from the different shopping centers, in our particular case here at Mega Mall we are growing, initially we started with 40% of the usual traffic and right now we are reaching about 65 70% of what we regularly drive from Monday to Friday ”, he explained.

In the case of Saturdays, he pointed out that they have had a different behavior than we regularly had when we were in full operation, but it also has a growth trend.

While, in relation to Sundays, he expressed the expectation that, with this reopening, they will become a family day.

“We believe that Sunday is going to become familiar again, as it has typically been, there will probably be a slight dilution effect, in the sense that before people had to run a little bit to do their shopping on Saturday because the Sunday they could not go out, probably now they will be able to distract themselves or segment a little bit the activities of Saturday and those of Sunday and share that with the family ”, he pointed out.

It is worth mentioning that the Minister of Health of Panama, Luis Francisco Sucre, announced that as of this October 25, the total quarantine of Sundays will be lifted nationwide.

PRESIDENT OF THE EPISCOPAL CONFERENCE SUPPORTS THE POPE’S DECLARATIONS ON CIVIL UNIONS

The president of the Episcopal Conference of Panama, Rafael Valdivieso, supported this Thursday, October 22, the statements of Pope Francis on civil unions of same-sex couples.

Valdivieso recalled that these couples, who have been living together for many years, must be protected in a civil way as stated by the pontiff.

The priest was consulted on the matter because this Wednesday it became known that the pope defended the right of homosexual couples, “children of God”, to live within a civil union that legally protects them.

The pope offered these statements in the documentary Francesco, which was presented this Wednesday at the Film Festival in the city of Rome, Italy.

Valdivieso said that agreements or contracts can be made to protect assets, whether due to death or separation.

He recalled that these types of agreements are not related to the Catholic Church, but to legal regulations.

The bishop acknowledged that civil unions are a complex issue, but stressed that people must be respected.

Furthermore, Valdivieso apologized because some people on behalf of the Panamanian Catholic Church offended and discriminated against others.

CORONAVIRUS CAN SURVIVE ON THE SKIN FOR UP TO NINE HOURS, ACCORDING TO A STUDY

Biosecurity measures should not be neglected.

The coronavirus can stay on the skin for up to nine hours, according to a study shared this month by the Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine.

The research results reinforce the practice of biosafety measures, among which the physical distancing and hand washing stand out.

The former director of the Gorgas Institute, Néstor Sosa, emphasized these recommendations, in order to prevent the number of cases from increasing.

“How long does SARSCoV2 survive in the skin? A study showed that it can persist for 9 hours. The influenza virus almost 2 hours. To continue with hand washing!”, Said the doctor.

In the research, the scientists compared the COVID-19 virus with the influenza A virus (VAI).

The results showed that the coronavirus can be transmitted more easily through contact, because it remains active longer.

“This study shows that the coronavirus could have a higher risk of transmission by contact than VAI, because the former is much more stable in human skin than the latter,” adds the study published in the journal Clinical Infectious Diseases.

When researchers added mucus, mimicking the release of viral particles when coughing or sneezing, the duration of the coronavirus was up to 11 hours.

However, with hand sanitizer, the microorganism was killed in 15 seconds.

The study was carried out on human skin samples collected in autopsies, because ethically it is not possible to expose a person to a potentially deadly virus.

SOLIDARITY BONUS WILL BE SUSPENDED TO THOSE WHO PARTICIPATE IN CLANDESTINE FESTIVALS

This measure will be taken because the majority of those who fail to comply are the same people who protested because the bonus did not arrive.

The Vice Minister of Internal Commerce, Omar Montilla, announced that they will suspend the Solidarity Bonus to those who are caught participating in activities prohibited by pandemic, such as clandestine parties.

According to Montilla, this measure will be taken because those who fail to comply, for the most part, are the same people who protested because the solidarity bond did not arrive.

On the other hand, he pointed out that those merchants “who have converted their establishments into bars and canteens, despite the fact that these places do not have permission to operate, will be sanctioned and warned they will cancel their liquor sales labels.

“We are going to be energetic with the corresponding sanctions of each ministry,” he said.

In March of this year, the Government issued an Executive Decree in which it prohibited a series of activities, including celebrations and festivities, measures that have not been lifted.

MINSA INVESTIGATES AND WILL PUNISH THOSE RESPONSIBLE FOR FESTIVE ACTIVITIES

“The images that are disseminated through social networks and television channels are self-explanatory”

The Ministry of Health (MINSA) will impose “an exemplary sanction” on those who are responsible for the activities that have been carried out in various parts of the country and that put the lives of other citizens at risk, said the vice minister of the portfolio, Ivette Berrío .

The sanctions will be imposed on the people who are identified as responsible for each of these festive activities according to what is established in the norm and it is up to the regional directors to carry out the respective investigations, he said.

“The images that are disseminated through social networks and television channels are self-explanatory and show how people who participate in these activities put their lives and those of their families at risk,” added Berrío.

Vice Minister Berrío also said that at this time the responsibility is not only the government, since it is up to each citizen to ensure their health and that of their families, especially the elderly.

“In the hearings you see people without a mask, without keeping their distance, they touch their faces, there are those who share glasses and even plates, this cannot be allowed,” said the deputy minister.

For the moment, MINSA has empowered regional directors across the country to apply the corresponding sanctions to all those who fail to comply with the measures in place to prevent the spread of the virus.

PANAMA FIRE FIGHTERS WILL IMPLEMENT THE FIRST AUTONOMOUS UV DISINFECTION SYSTEM

The system has been installed in the main offices of the institution.

The Panama Fire Department will use the UV Robot system in its facilities, which disinfects rooms and rooms using ultraviolet light, and has proven that it has the ability to sterilize different spaces, eliminating 100% of fungi and bacteria in a very short time.

These equipment are already being used in countries in Europe, Asia and Latin America whose main function is to disinfect spaces and prevent the spread of COVID-19, neutralizing the virus.

For the general director of the Fire Department of Panama, Colonel Abdiel Solís, the system could reduce dependence on the use of chemical-based solutions, which can be effective, but require that the rooms be unoccupied for several hours during sterilization, which makes it impractical for many parts of the facilities.

Traditional systems based on cleaning cycles, a complete disinfection process can exceed 48-72 hours, and gases are often used intensively that are toxic to a greater or lesser degree for people and require a minimum of two technicians to carry out the decontamination task, space by space, equipped with complete individual protection equipment.

Through a collaboration with Jenkins & Doc, the institution is committed to the use of equipment that neutralizes surface microorganisms and is initially operated by a remote user and later operates autonomously.

The system can disinfect 4,000 square feet of warehouse space in half an hour. The robot equipped with UV-C lamps first recognizes the room to be disinfected, the algorithm calculates the distance, the time and the appropriate intensity based on the necessary parameters and the elements and spaces that it encounters, and the disinfection protocol starts. once it is confirmed that no person is present.

Finally, he advises that the entire process has been carried out without incident. The UV Robot is a system for disinfecting spaces using ultraviolet C rays and ozone emission 50ml / hour. The technology does not leave residues, so it is completely ecological and improves environmental hygiene, it also helps to avoid cross infections and represents a significant saving not only in time but also in consumable materials.

SUCRE REQUESTS A REPORT DUE TO DECREASE IN THE APPLICATION OF COVID-19 TESTS

Unified Traceability Teams (EUT) will maintain their surveillance actions.

The Minister of Health of Panama, Luis Francisco Sucre requested a report from the Director General of Health, Nadja Porcell, to know the reason for the decrease in the numbers of the application of COVID-19 tests in the epidemiological report on Monday.

This, after it will be revealed that 2,847 tests were applied, for a percentage of positivity of 15.3%.

“Under a lot of yesterday’s tests, we were talking with some medical directors, we are collecting the information and we are going to continue strengthening the teams, since some have been weakened over time,” Sucre said.

He added that part of the investigation also shows “that some very small points did not report the tests on time, but yesterday, he requested that all regions be called to verify the reason for the downturn, it caught our attention as we the information arrived ”.

Regarding the Community Traceability teams in the face of COVID-19, the health minister stated “logically they get tired, since it is a job from Sunday to Sunday, so we are going to restructure how it is working, in such a way that on Saturdays and Sundays, they also work and they are not good numbers from Monday to Friday, we will see what are the critical knots and the weaknesses that we have to adjust and that on Sunday a good report is given.

He also referred to the slight increase in COVID-19 cases, which “is an alert for everyone, no one wants to return, in the end it is everyone’s responsibility.”

MINSA RECOMMENDS ‘STAYING IN A FAMILY BUBBLE’ ON NOVEMBER 2

The Minsa also recommends not carrying containers in which water accumulates.

For next November 2, when Panamanians will visit cemeteries and churches, the Ministry of Health (Minsa) recommends that the family bubble be maintained due to the pandemic caused by Covid-19.

The entity also reminded the Panamanian population that they must maintain biosecurity measures when visiting cemeteries.

In addition, while visiting graves or attending Masses they should practice courtesy and keep the recommended distance between groups.

Gabriela García de Salazar, national director of Health Promotion, recommended reducing the visiting time to avoid congestion in the crypts and cemeteries.

“Other measures that should not be forgotten is not to carry the flowers in containers that reserve water, these are potential breeding sites for the Aedes aegypti mosquito, which transmits dengue”, concluded García de Salazar.

“The different municipalities, the churches and the Minsa will be vigilant that the distance between visiting families is fulfilled,” emphasized a statement from the Ministry released on the afternoon of this Sunday, October 18.

INDIGENOUS PEOPLE PARTICIPATING IN THE COFFEE HARVEST REFUSE TO TAKE THE COVID-19 TEST

On the weekend, the second sweep was carried out on the farms where tests were applied in search of new cases.

Many indigenous people who participate in the coffee harvest in Renacimiento, in the province of Chiriquí, refuse to take the swab test to determine if they have the COVID-19 virus and adopt the quarantine measures established by the Ministry of Health, because there are 86 active cases.

The owners of the coffee farms have had to intervene so that the coffee harvesters agree to take the test, which is a biosecurity requirement to reactivate these important tasks in the coffee sector.

Coffee producers are asking workers to access the tests, since it is the only guarantee for this activity to take place.

The Renacimiento coffee producer, Ameth Lezcano, confirmed that although there are indigenous people who, due to their idiosyncrasies, do not want to access, they are looking for a way to convince them to access and thus advance with the activity.

However, she points out that there are a series of conditions that must be met in the camps and that they are being carried out.

Gladys Novoa, director of the Minsa in Chiriquí, said that the second sweep was carried out on the farms over the weekend where tests were applied in search of new cases.

The doctor pointed out that a biosecurity plan was established which is constantly verified to ensure that it is complied with and prevent an increase in cases.

She points out that COVID-19 testing of indigenous people is essential to avoid the virus outbreak that involves closing farms due to quarantine.

The Mida carries out a radio prevention campaign throughout the country both in Spanish and in the Ngäbe Buglé language aimed at farmers and farm workers; in addition to the distribution of posters with simple messages and images on security measures.

END OF THE YEAR, VITAL TO REACTIVATE THE COLON FREE ZONE

Before the pandemic, the ZLC employed between 18,000 and 20,000 employees.

The negative impact that the covid-19 pandemic has left for Panama and the world, seems to be not so dire for the Colon Free Zone (ZLC), according to Giovanni Ferrari, general manager of the largest logistics center in the American continent and the second in the world.

In an interview with La Estrella de Panamá, Ferrari said that this year the production of the ZLC would close with a 10% drop; Although it is not a positive outlook, it is considered encouraging when reviewing the results of the first half of this year, when the numbers reflected a 29% reduction in income, according to data from the Department of Statistics and Economic Studies of the Finance Department of the business entity.

With only three months to go to the end of the year (October, November and December), the opening of the markets could represent an improvement in the commercial activity of the Free Zone.

The ZLC administrator assured that the commercial movement will depend on the recovery of Panama and the markets of Central America, South America and the Caribbean.

“They are going to open and some will be faster than others … The regional economy continues to be very hit, the limitations continue. You have to work hard to get new markets and companies that come to establish themselves in the ZLC ”.

According to Ferrari, the scenario could have been worse than the figures reveal. The quarantine imposed to reduce the spread of the disease forced the closure of a good number of national and international companies that were clients of the ZLC. The suspension of commercial flights also affected commercial activity because foreign entrepreneurs could not travel to the country to make their purchases.

“Between 40% and 50% of the companies in the Free Zone did not work during the pandemic and that lasted six months …”, explained Giovanni Ferrari, manager of the ZLC, also classified as the Panamanian free port.

According to the statistical document, between January and July 2020 the commercial activity of the Panamanian free zone represented $ 7,663.1 million, which indicates a 29% contraction compared to the same period of 2019, which closed with $ 10,782.5 million.

The numbers caused by the pandemic point to a weakening of the free port, but the situation could represent an advantage for the ZLC. The pandemic had a specific impact on merchandise supply routes, which were closed due to mobility restrictions.

It was demonstrated that having the product close to consumer markets is a good strategy, much better than bringing them from regions where weather events or transport incidents can affect the arrival of the products. “In its 72 years of existence, the Panamanian free zone has been strategic because you always have the products close to the markets,” explained the manager of the ZLC.

Severo Sousa, businessman and user in the area, has a different opinion of the situation.

The ZLC has had a double negative impact, because in addition to the pandemic where it has been affected by local restrictions that caused the closure of its companies for several months, there are also regulations imposed in other countries that are destinations for its re-exports, he said.

To this he adds that the commercial area was seriously affected by the economic situation that existed before this health crisis, which increased the so-called credit risk, which prevents greater access to banking facilities.

“The Free Zone prospered when it didn’t have high taxes or fees. Right now, the businessman needs respite, medical attention ”GIOVANNI FERRARI, MANAGER OF THE ZLC

According to Sousa, the outlook is not the best: “there is no greater reactivation in the short term, despite the fact that the total reopening process began a few weeks ago.”

The health emergency had an impact on the employability of the free zone. There were suspensions of contracts and labor relations that have been truncated. And it is not known if the companies that were before the health crisis will be able to resist and reopen later.

Before the pandemic, the Free Zone employed between 18,000 and 20,000 employees. But now, for the moment, there are no statistics that allow us to compare active and unemployed personnel. The numbers are expected to be available in January of next year.

One of the great challenges that the Panamanian free zone faces to improve its yields is the position of the banks of not allowing access to loans to entrepreneurs. “They see it as high-risk businesses for a few years, a perception that has been increasing every year and therefore it is extremely difficult to access commercial loans, and even employees are not paid for working in ZLC,” explained Sousa.

The criterion is shared by the manager of the free zone. “The Panamanian banking system has turned its back on the business of the ZLC,” said Ferrari. According to the manager of the free zone, there are bank resolutions that prevent and give a value to building improvements to guarantee loans. “It is a terrible decision, disastrous …”, said Ferrari.

Ferrari is convinced that the free zone can be more prosperous. And you have what it takes to do it. For example, entrepreneurs who know the business perfectly, who have experience to market in the region and who know the trends of the countries.

But entrepreneurs must be offered incentives that allow them to evolve. “The Free Zone prospered when it didn’t have high taxes or fees. Right now, the businessman needs respite, medical attention, ”Ferrari assured.

But, as if the pandemic were not enough, the administration will have to deal with a reduction in its budget of 36%. For 2021, the ZLC budget is $ 9.2 million, that is $ 5.2 million less. While annually it contributes to the State $ 15 million.

At present, Panama is the main market in the ZLC. The handling of the dollar, the US currency, makes it an attractive market for entrepreneurs. The proximity between the market and the logistics area eliminates commercial risks, because it is not the same to sell to a foreign company than to a local one.

Panama is followed by Colombia, the Dominican Republic and Guatemala. The free zone re-exports pharmaceutical products, clothing, appliances, footwear, perfumes, cosmetics, alcoholic beverages, cigarettes, textiles, watches, fine jewelry, bedding and table linens, among others. China is the largest supplier of the Panamanian free port

Fin de año, vital para reactivar la Zona Libre de Colón

END NOTES

A few months ago, Queen Sayira was as happy as a little girl playing with a new doll as she dug through the soft soil of her freshly allocated garden.  She didn’t have a lot of experience with gardening, but her mother has one of the greenest thumbs I’ve seen.  “Mom” once broke a hole in the cement floor of their very humble backend of their house to expose the rubble and clay beneath it.  She threw in an avocado seed and that thing grew, eventually giving them a few avocados until the day they had to remodel the rear end of the house, extending one of the bedrooms to accommodate her ailing father.

So, Sayira decided she would do like Mom did and she threw a few seeds around her little garden.  She planted tomatoes, peppers and a few others, but seeing as there was no order to any of it, I teased her about the salad she was planting.  Well, after a few hardships and miscalculated waterings, only the peppers survived.  Right now we have three of them growing on one of the 3 plants that made it through our abuse.

Stay safe…  Stay healthy…  Unless direly necessary, STAY HOME!!…
