One of my employees was confirmed today to have COVID19. I’ve only been in contact once in the last week, but several others from our office were. So, today, we started testing everyone and tomorrow I’ll go in as well. Many who are reading will think, “Dude, if you’re not sick, you don’t need to take the test!” And you would be correct, but I’m not taking THAT test. I’m definitely not a fan of getting a cotton swab introduced through my nose to the back of my throat. We’re having blood drawn to see if we’ve had it (or presently HAVE it) through what’s called a serology test. Also known as an “antibody test”, this is a test to see if we’ve had the virus or quite possibly if we are still contagious. Yeah, that may seem odd, but I really would rather have blood drawn instead of the cotton swab test. I have a big nose and I’m concerned about the size of swab they’d need to get back there.

The scientific formula to avoid the spread of the virus
Physical distancing and the use of protective implements such as masks and glasses to prevent the spread of Covid-19 disease are recurring recommendations of the authorities of the Ministry of Health (Minsa) to the population to face the pandemic.
Subsequently, 44 comparative meta-analyzes with 25,697 patients affected by Covid-19 or their relatives were included in the published work; and the SARS-CoV-2 and MERS coronaviruses.
The complete analysis of the evidence led Canadian scientists to conclude that maintaining a distance of at least one meter apart from other people significantly reduces the risk of contagion, but it is much more reduced to two meters away.
Findings

The scientists also analyzed the available data on the usefulness of eye protection, allowing them to establish that the use of screens or glasses can be a useful tool against the virus (the risk of infection goes from 16% to 5.5%). In addition, as in the case of masks, the researchers acknowledge that, in this field, the evidence that exists so far is low, so new research should be carried out in this regard.
Regarding the masks, the document indicates that without this protection the risk of virus transmission is 17.4% and with it it is reduced to 3.1%.
In fact, the study data indicates that FFP2 or KN95 masks are more effective than surgical or reusable ones. However, given the lack of availability in many contexts of the most efficient filtering masks, such as FFP2 or KN95, their use should be prioritized in healthcare personnel.

RESTRUCTURED HOSPITAL COMPLEX AND INCREASE OF 46 BEDS IN ICU
The Social Security Fund (CSS) restructured an area of the Arnulfo Arias Madrid Hospital Complex and increased the availability of resources with 66 additional beds in case of demand in the event of COVID-19 cases.
The beds available in the Intensive Care Unit were increased to 46 and to 20 in the Special Respiratory Care Unit (UCRE).
In addition, appointments of more nurses and respiratory therapists were made, as indicated by the entity.
This, after the director of the CSS, Enrique Lau Cortés, announced last Sunday that they only had five beds in the ICU of the Complex.
They reiterated the call for citizens to abide by social distancing measures, the correct use of masks and constant hand washing.
CABALLERO: CAPACITY OF THE DAVID REGIONAL HOSPITAL MAY DEPLETE IN THE EVENT OF AN INCREASE IN COVID-19 CASES
Rolando Caballero, Medical Director of the Rafael Hernández Hospital in David, Chiriquí, announced that given the increase in the number of infected by COVID-19, the medical center could collapse.
“If people ignore it and the cases continue to increase, we could exhaust the hospitalization capacity in the hospital,” Caballero said.
He explained that to date there are a total of 32 respirators in this hospital, of which 12 are free; four to five patients in the Intensive Care Unit and five beds available; while in the ward there are a total of 17 patients and five free beds.

MINERA PANAMA ASKS TO RESUME OPERATIONS
An appeal for guarantees against Resolution No. 1394-A of May 25, 2020, issued by the Ministry of Health and which ordered the temporary suspension of the Donoso (Colón) mining project, was presented to the Supreme Court of Justice by representatives from Minera Panamá.
The amparo, which was distributed on Monday, June 8, was filed in the office of magistrate María Eugenia López, who must analyze whether or not she admits the amparo presented by the firm Morgan & Morgan on behalf of Minera Panamá.
Minera Panamá requested the Ministry of Health to reopen the mining project closed since April 6, after multiple cases of Covid-19 were reported and two workers died from the virus.

The closure of the mine forced the departure of 650 workers, who work directly on the project and the total stoppage of other related activities.
MINSA EXPLAINED THAT IT ONLY PROCESSES “HUMANITARIAN SALVOCONDUCTOS“

She stressed that on the subject of death they are given the guidance that only 5 family members are allowed and they are asked for the person’s death certificate.
Gill explained that the safe-conducts are not open, the issued safe-conduct will specify the time, destination and the day the people would travel;
“It is not an open pass that the person is going to use to go and go.”
She argued that all cases are individualized and analyzed with legal technical criteria.

ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF OF THE CSS PROTEST AGAINST POSSIBLE DISMISSALS
On the premises of the National Association of Administrative Officials (Anfacss), officials from the Social Security Fund (CSS) met to protest vigorously against the director of this entity, Enrique Lau Cortés, before the alleged measures to reduce 300 jobs. that it would do in the next days.
According to the leaders, internal sources of the CSS informed them that the director would make the decision to terminate 300 employees of the call center and to outsource the services, acts that they consider unfair and for which they called for a sit-down strike at the 12:01 am this Wednesday.
The protesters carried banners and even burned a doll that simulated the image of the CSS director.

THE GOVERNMENT REDUCE OR REPLACE SENTENCES TO 329 INMATES
At least 329 deprived of liberty have been benefited by the authorities of the Ministry of Government and the Judicial Branch with the replacement or reduction of their sentences, as part of the measures that these institutions have adopted to reduce overcrowding and, thereby, decrease the risk of Covid-19 infection in the country’s prisons.
According to information provided by the Government Ministry, 100 of the inmates benefited from measures to replace the sentence, granted by the Judicial after the review of 303 processes.
Prisoners included in this list are over 60 years of age or have chronic illnesses; two-thirds of the sentence have already been served; they are certified as inmates of good conduct and participants in re-socialization programs.
The judges also granted substitution measures to inmates with half of the sentences served for simple crimes (theft, robbery, fraud), in addition to their good conduct and participation in some resocialization activity in prison.
The other 229 inmates benefited from reductions in their sentences.
The director of Legal Advice of the Government Ministry, Lorenzo Hincapié, reported that this entity works simultaneously with the Ministry of the Presidency in granting these measures.
“The application of these criminal benefits seek to safeguard the life and health of persons deprived of liberty, administrative staff and custodians of penal centers due to the pandemic in the country,” said a statement from the ministry.
At a meeting held last Friday, June 5, the Government Ministry, the Judicial Branch and the Ministry of Health agreed to establish two working groups related to the operation of penitentiary centers in time of the Covid-19 pandemic. One of these instances will be in charge of installing the technological platforms necessary for access to justice and to prevent hearings from being lost; and the other of all administrative and judicial processes.

SENAFRONT DUDE INFECTED HIS WIFE AND CHILDREN WITH COVID-19, POSSIBLY HAD A PARTY
A unit of the National Border Service is the person who apparently arrived at his residence in La Pintada, Coclé province and infected his wife and two children with covid-19, it is also said that he held a party where around 50 people participated.

SCAMMERS CHARGE UP TO 300 DOLLARS FOR HEALTH CERTIFICATION TO HERRERA ENTREPRENEURS
Herrera Health Authorities alerted, on Monday, June 8, about the existence of scammers who are taking on the task of charging local businessmen for a certification of compliance with the protocol of the Covid-19 standards.
The regional director of Health of Herrera Luis Pérez announced that information has been received from local entrepreneurs, that people outside the Ministry of Health (Minsa), posing as officials, have requested the collection of up to $ 300 for the issuance of said certification.
Pérez clarified that this process is free and is carried out based on a series of guidelines that must be complied with and that have been included in different resolutions of the Minsa and other entities, with a view to initiating the “new normality.”
He urged those who receive this kind of offer to file the complaints, with the Minsa and the corresponding institutions, so that those responsible can respond to the authorities.
Pérez also asked the population to purchase disposable masks, alcohol gel and alcohol in authorized commercial stores, since they must have a health registry.

I had the opportunity to go to Chorrera recently, so I took advantage for a surprise visit to see my little buddy Raul. Raul “Buddy” Lopez is my grandson of 4 years. I get some of my inspiration from him. He’s so spontaneous and is quick to explain things that you need to know, like, right now! I was about a block away from my surprise visit when I realized that I wouldn’t be able to go inside and that I actually probably shouldn’t be going at all. This was prior to the return of the full lockdown, but social distancing is important and my daughter is very strict about it, as she should be. There have been several cases in the area she lives in already. So, although I was worried about not getting the full effect of the visit, I still decided to stop in just to say hi. It was a surprise visit for everyone, especially since I had just cut my hair short and was wearing a mask. I showed up to the door, peered in and didn’t say a word. Everyone looked and hesitated because I have always called ahead in past visits; they had no idea who I was. And then Raulito figured it out, “ABUELITO!”, he exclaimed. He came running to the decorative iron security door, immediately pointed to their cat and began explaining to me how that her name was “Michin” and she’s his pet. I already knew that, so I think he was just testing my senility. We had a good chat between the bars of their prison cell and to avoid any tears, I decided to make it a quick visit. He’s such a good kid. Today he sent me a video explaining how I could get the virus and how to wash my hands and the many ways to avoid infection. He got the hiccups half-way through the presentation. “Health expert Raul” was apparently overwhelmed with his own brilliance.
