What Would Jesus Do?; Case traceability center in Panama Oeste; First positive case in Pedasí; APEDE asks the government for effective leadership; Expectation vs Budget

Tuesday, June 30, 2020

I’ve seen this posted by friends and family and each time it brings about a “cringe moment” more intense than any Tweet President Trump has sent out yet.  This post is by no means an attempt by yours truly to examine the human experience of faith.  It’s not to review how different cultures express it.  I doubt this would be the proper platform to challenge the different religions of the world or their impact on society.  In brief, I am no Theologian.

Nope, he’s not hiding under here…

Whether you believe in God, or not, whether you believe that Jesus was the son of God or not, isn’t all too relevant for this brief article. I recognize that there is a large group of people who are Christians and who do believe that he is/was, me included, but that’s not my focus.

What we can agree on to be factual is that Jesus was a real person. He’s not a fable. He preached that He is the son of God or in reverse, God is his Father. Based on this, what’s most important here is the ridiculous apples to oranges comparison. There are many stories about Him and this story of Him entering the Temple is a common motif in Christian art. In this account, Jesus and his disciples travel to Jerusalem for Passover, where Jesus expels the merchants and money changers from the Temple, accusing them of turning the Temple into “a den of thieves” through their commercial activities.

And making a whip of cords, he drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and oxen. And he poured out the coins of the money-changers and overturned their tables. And he told those who sold the pigeons, “Take these things away; do not make my Father’s house a house of trade”.

John 2:13–16

Jesus is historically revered as a decent person; one who everyone should base their lives after.  The inquiry “What would Jesus do?”, was a common ploy and tool of psychological pressure that even my dad, of all people, has taunted me with.  “Fine, I’ll go to the funeral of a relative that I don’t even know, because that’s what Jesus would do.” Or “OK, I’m sure Jesus would filet all the fish himself so you can relax, you’re absolutely right!”

The comparison made in the previous image that was spread throughout social media claims that Jesus cast everyone out of the Temple “in protest” and therefore the “Destruction of property is in fact a valid form of protest.”  This completely misses the point and could even be considered anti-Semitic (Jesus was Jewish).  Apples to Oranges.  Why?

The house of God was overrun with commerce.  Look, He preached that he was the son of God.  He believed and taught that God was His Father.  In his mind, He was removing these blasphemous people and acts from His Father’s home.  If this painting depicts anything, it’s the godly right of everyone to protect the sanctity of what’s theirs.  Imagine if you will, you come home and you find that someone had come in and setup a hair salon or a pub or was using your kitchen to sell food.  Or being more case specific, let’s say you go to your father’s house to visit and note that there was a pawn shop in the living room; something your father did NOT approve of.  You would remove them from the premises.  This painting does NOT depict a free ticket for people protesting a murder, racism, inequality or anything at all to vandalize someone else´s home, store, vehicle, statues, merchandise, etc.  All this does is promote further division and anarchy.

And now we have a couple in St Louis who have become inadvertently famous for… I have no idea. Why did we have to make them famous? Can any one tell me? First of all, allow me to introduce you to “Ken and Karen” as they have been so affectionately dubbed:

Cmon, punk, I dare you to ask us if we have any Grey Poupon

The headlines everywhere read:

A white couple pointed a pistol and an assault-style rifle at protesters marching past a mansion in St. Louis, Mo., on Sunday,

How much more racist can you get, Mr Reliable News Source?  I’ve been doing some reading on how to be a better writer and “Writing Tool #2” tells us to put the most important information at the beginning and at the end of your sentences.  In this case, according to this methodology and if the news reporter is following this logic, they want us to think that the most important thing here is “A white couple” and “a mansion”.  The fascinating part is that the beginning of this story has been tucked in to an insignificant part of the article (if you consider ANY part of this article truly significant) as if it wasn’t worth any importance.  The beginning of this story is:

“Protestors enter a gated community by force, damaging the entrance and marching the streets within.”

Then the next part of the story was,

“homeowners in the vicinity report to the local authorities that a group of individuals had breached the private community by damaging the main gate and are making aggravating advances towards residents”.

“Ken and Karen” aren’t even a part of the story quite yet. And, as a matter of fact, this story undoubtably began over a month ago on May 25 when George Floyd was killed during an arrest for allegedly using a counterfeit bill. Since then there have been thousands of protests. Yes, thousands. How many peaceful protests have you seen on TV so far? Not many, that’s for sure. The curious part is that the majority of the protests have been peaceful, but the media chooses what you get to see. “Peaceful protest” is lame and boring. Yet aggressive men beating helpless old lady, is awesome, professional, responsible coverage. We’ve all had more than 30 days of training and we know what’s going to happen.

So, let’s understand the mindset of a financially fortunate couple, living in a gated community, who have seen all of the riots with its certain lust for destruction and you just got told that a group of 300-500 unruly individuals, “protesting”, have just broken down the main gate and are heading towards your home. What are you going to do? Don’t tell me “you should call the police”, because right now, at this very second, they’re not there, they’re not on their way and they probably wouldn’t be able to go either because they’re taking care of the other riots elsewhere. This is happening right now and you’re almost certain, because the fear-mongering press has already instructed you on what “these people” are capable of. You’ve also seen the graffiti, “Eat the rich” painted on a burning car at a Mercedes dealership in Chicago… no wait, that was Minneapolis, oh hell, who can keep track of it all? Well, you can’t suddenly become “unrich” on the spot, now can you? I can see it now, “the two white people” start smearing garbage on their clothes and faces, tear their khaki pants and silk shirt, and just when the protesters arrive they point and yell, “The rich family ran that’a way!” pointing over to Jim and Janice’s house who they’ve loathed since the day they arrived in 2018. No sir, you’re an American and you’re going to protect your property the best you can. Do you know their intentions? No. Do you know what they’re capable of? Yes. So, you have no choice but to awkwardly man-handle your weapons; you have the Mega Weapon of Mass Destruction model T-341 and you give your wife the imitation Walther PPK you got at the James Bond museum in London because you’re a narcissistic male chauvinist pig. You both walk out the door (as you were dressed) and you ensure no one does anything stupid like damage your property or do any bodily injury to you or your family. You don’t fire at anyone, but you make sure they see that you’re armed. The right to bear arms is very clear. At no time did they take aim on any of the protestors. This is being investigated, but none of the videos show this. If anything, they do point their weapons at each other from time to time by accident. For the record, the couple’s names aren’t Ken and Karen, it’s Mark and Patricia McCloskey. Both in their 60’s, both lawyers and both are now defending their position as brandishing legally owned weapons to protect their property from what appears to be “only” 100 protestors who were trespassing on private property.

For those who are still thinking, “they had no right to do that”.  Apart from the fact that they DID have the right to do it, think about what you would do in your home right now.  Here we are in Panama, loving life, enjoying our gardening, having a nice meal with family and suddenly you get a call that 100, 300 or 500 people were bearing down on your location at this very moment.  You’ve already seen the destruction they’ve left in their paths before and someone even suggested that “Momma” brought out her kettle and was starting to make soup (you’ll have to review one of my first articles about protests in Panama if you didn’t catch it).  The bottom line, is that the shit is getting real right in your own neighborhood.  You bring in the dogs, you lock up any valuables if there’s time to do it, you tell the kids to hide in their rooms and if you can, you arm yourself.  Don’t try to walk out front to offer hugs or food.  If they’re in your neighborhood and you invite them in, they’re taking what used to be yours and is now theirs.

Don’t get me wrong here. I’ve become a pacifist by choice. I haven’t a single drop of bloodlust in my body. But I also know that I need to be prepared for the worst and hope for the best. Do I know what they’re planning on doing? No. Do I know what they’re capable of? Yes. Do I want to hurt someone even if they want to hurt me? No sir, I don’t want any part of it and I definitely don’t want to become famous like Ken and Karen did. Maybe I should just take the high road and ask the angry mob of protesters, “What would Jesus do?”.

Yoli’s Summary

“Obesity is a significant factor associated with death in hospital”

A new study published in The Lancet reveals that obesity worsens the prognosis for Covid-19 coronavirus in young people.

“Obesity itself must be viewed as a sufficient risk factor in young people who come to the ICU,” explains lead author David Kass, a professor of cardiology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

“In that sense, there is a simple message: If you are overweight, don’t think that if you are 35 years old you are safer (from a serious case of Covid-19) than your mother or your grandparents or other people in their 60s or 70s,” Kass tells Medscape Medical News.

The research was conducted in 265 patients (58 percent male) in late March at various U.S. hospitals, and the findings reinforce other recent research indicating that obesity is one of the highest risk factors for severe Covid-19 disease. Furthermore, a British study showed that, after adjusting for comorbidities, obesity was a significant factor associated with death in hospital.

But this new analysis is the only one to date that specifically “asks the age-related question” of whether severe Covid-19 disease correlates with ICU treatment. The mean age of the ICU patient study sample was 55 years.

“Even with the first 20 patients, we were already seeing younger and overweight people, with many patients with a BMI greater than 35 kg / m2,” he adds. “The relationship was quite close, quite fast.”

Steven Heymsfield, former president and spokesperson for the Obesity Society, agrees with Kass’s findings.

“One thing we have had in mind is that the prototype of a person with this disease is higher, but if obesity is taken into account it is no longer.”

For this reason, it calls for greater surveillance of this risk population to reduce the prevalence of the coronavirus.

The risks of obesity in patients with coronavirus

For this research, the authors anticipated similar results to the largest study of 1,591 ICU patients in Italy, in which only 203 were under the age of 51. Common comorbidities among those patients included hypertension, cardiovascular disease, and type 2 diabetes, with similar data reported by China.

When the epidemic accelerated in the United States, advanced age was also identified as a risk factor. Obesity had not yet been added to this list, Kass notes. But after informal conversations with doctors from other ICUs in the country, he decided to investigate further whether it was an underestimated risk factor.

Kass and his colleagues made a quick assessment of the relationship between BMI and age of Covid-19 patients admitted to the ICUs of Johns Hopkins, University of Cincinnati, University of New York, University of Washington, Florida Health and University of Pennsylvania.

The “significant inverse correlation between age and BMI” showed that younger ICU patients were more likely to be obese, with no difference by sex. The median BMI among study participants was 29.3 kg / m2, with only a quarter with a BMI less than 26 kg / m2 and another 25% with a BMI greater than 34.7 kg / m2.

“Obesity exerts additional pressure on the diaphragm that makes breathing difficult”

Kass acknowledged that it was not possible with this simple data set to account for other potential confounders, but told Medscape Medical News that “While diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and hypertension, for example, can occur with obesity, this is generally less in younger populations as it takes time for other comorbidities to develop. “

It states that various mechanisms could explain why obesity predisposes Covid-19 patients to serious diseases. For one thing, obesity puts additional pressure on the diaphragm while lying on the back, restricting breathing.

“Here we have a viral infection where early reports suggest that cytokine storms and poor immune management of the virus are the reason why it is so much more serious than other forms of coronavirus we’ve seen before. So if you have someone with an underlying pro-inflammatory state, this could be a reason for increased risk. “

In addition, the angiotensin-converting enzyme-2 receptor (ACE-2) to which the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes Covid-19 binds is expressed in higher amounts in adipose tissue than in the lungs, Kass says.

INTERHOSPITAL CONTROL CENTER LAUNCHED

The objective of this center is to carry out a permanent analysis of the installed capacity of the different hospitals in the country to provide more efficient care and facilitate their management and to carry out the proper administration of each one of them.

The Health Minister, Luis Francisco Sucre, reported that the Interhospital Control Center, coordinated with the Social Security Fund (CSS), was installed in the Ministry of Health (Minsa).

The objective of this center is to carry out a permanent analysis of the installed capacity of the different hospitals in the country to provide more efficient care and facilitate their management and to carry out the proper administration of each one of them.

In addition, the aim is to provide real-time information on the situation in the country in order to organize, if necessary, coverage for the growing demand for COVID-19 patients.

Through this center, it is also intended to strengthen, effectively, the national health system of both institutions. A total of 15 beds were installed yesterday in the Intensive Care Unit at the Integrated Hospital Panama Solidario.

It was also reported that yesterday, the Advisory Council with the Chamber of Commerce and Industries of Panama and the Thematic Commission, which makes up the technical advisory team of Minsa, met at the Presidency of the Republic.

In this meeting the situation of the country with respect to COVID-19 and the actions for the return to the new normality were evaluated. ‘

In the meantime, the Minsa reported that at this moment a situation aroused with two women who arrived at the Nicolás Solano Hospital in La Chorrera, both with pneumonia and suspicion of COVID-19, is being investigated.

The two patients have difficulty communicating, due to Alzheimer’s disease. When the test was carried out, both were confirmed to have COVID-19, but they remain in stable condition.

On the other hand, officials from the Boca La Caja Health Center, in sectors such as Paitilla, Carrasquilla and San Sebastián, carried out a work session focused on raising awareness of the population on the hygienic measures that must be adopted to avoid the spread of COVID -19.

MEDICAL PERSONNEL WILL HAVE TO DECIDE ON LIFE OR DEATH OF PATIENTS IF PANAMA RUSHES OPENING

Doctors Javier Nieto and Xavier Sáez-Llorens, from the dissolved Advisory Committee of COVID-19 in Panama, advised this afternoon, through their Twitter accounts, to the authorities to be cautious about the possible reopening of blocks due to the epidemiological situation the country and avoid the burden on medical personnel.

Dr. Nieto recommended through his tweets that once the pressure on the health system is overcome, de-escalation should be gradual. And he alleges that Panama is not far from what is happening in countries like Colombia, Argentina and the United States, where it has had to back down given situations similar to those we are currently seeing.

“To consider opening blocks due to economic pressures in areas where there is currently saturation of the system would be a disaster translated into loss of human life. This would be ethically intolerable,” Nieto emphasized.

In addition, the infectious medicine doctor pointed out that the authorities must decide whether to restrict the safe-conducts to Blocks 1 and 2, for at least two weeks or else they will have to assume deaths at home and in hospitals in the absence of adequate care in wards or support in the Intensive Care units.

Sáez-Llorens agrees with this thought and even advanced that if this continues, it will put medical personnel in the difficult decision of choosing who will be admitted to intensive care units and who will not.

“I feel pressure to open commercial blocks; although understandable, I prefer caution (personally, no longer as an advisor). How many deaths are businessmen and leaders willing to tolerate? For doctors, one death is too much. Perhaps they will not be remorseful. conscience,” said Sáez-Llorens.

These expressions occur after the meeting held between the Advisory Health Council, the Chamber of Commerce and Industries and the Thematic Commission that makes up the technical advisory team of the Ministry of Health (Minsa), on Monday.

PANAMA OESTE ACTIVATES COE FOR TRACEABILITY OF POSITIVE CASES OF COVID-19

Panama Oeste activates COE for the traceability of positive cases of COVID-19.

The high incidence of positive cases of COVID-19, in PanamaOeste, led the provincial authorities to organize to activate the Emergency Operations Center (COE) for the traceability of cases.

Herminia Mariscal, institutional head of the Social Security Fund (CSS), in Panama Oeste and member of the COE, said that it is an inter-institutional effort to capture and monitor positive cases in order to cut the transmission line.

“As it is a joint effort, it includes follow-up, monitoring and solidarity support so that the affected people do not have the need to go out and put at risk the rest of the population who remain in quarantine,” she said.

The COE for the traceability of positive cases in West Panama includes the participation of the provincial government, the Ministry of Health, CSS, the National Police, the National Civil Protection System (Sinaproc), the Ministry of Social Development and community leaders.

The COE will meet daily to manage a single matrix of inter-institutional information with positive, negative data, follow-up, new cases and handling of contacts for the corresponding accompaniment by the authorities.

MINISTER OF LABOR RECEIVES THE REPORT CONTAINING THE AGREEMENTS REACHED

On Tuesday afternoon, June 30, the Minister of Labor and Labor Development, Doris Zapata, received a report containing the 23 agreements reached between the private sector, workers and the Ministry of Labor and Labor Development (as mediator) in the table for the economy and labor development.

Among the three commissions created to present proposals to the Executive: that of socio-labor affairs; that of labor, economic and legal matters for work and job preservation; and of gradual return, labor and health, consensus was generated on social and health policies, which will serve as a roadmap for the coming months, confirmed the Minister of Labor.

“Among the points agreed upon is that of reforming the Vale Panama law; and the regulation of teleworking. Labor issues were also agreed in the midst of the pandemic, such as procedures and concrete measures to reduce working hours to avoid layoffs, as well as the application and interpretation of current regulations on return based on effective and effective health protocols,” said the minister.

One of the points that could not be resolved at the table was the extension of the suspension of labor contracts – for more than four months, which would imply a reform to the Labor Code.

“We have been clear that our intention has not been to reform the Labor Code under any circumstances. In this case, we would have to do it by means of a legislative initiative to speak then of a possible temporary and transitory norm based on the suspension of the contracts,” said Zapata.

For employers, the temporary extension of contracts would allow companies gradual returns. So far, more than 260,000 contracts have been suspended in the country.

“It is necessary to see this with the bright lights, because without sustainable companies there will be no decent jobs,” said Juan Ledezma, representative of the businessmen at the tripartite table.

Meanwhile, Aniano Pinzón, representative of the workers, acknowledged that reaching agreements between the employer and worker sector “has been a titanic effort.”

JULIO SANDOVAL: RESPONSIBLY WE MADE OUR POSITIONS AVAILABLE

Meeting held yesterday between the members of the Advisory Council and the members of the Advisory Committee COVID-19.

In a meeting held yesterday between the members of the Committee, Minister Sucre and other authorities, it was agreed to create working commissions to combat this deadly virus.

Most of the members of the Advisory Committee Against COVID-19 who worked with the Minister of Health, Rosario Turner, will continue to provide advice in the fight against the pandemic.

Julio Sandoval, an intensivist doctor and who is part of the Advisory Committee appointed by Turner, indicated that with the latest changes that occurred, he and other members responsibly made their positions available to the new Minister of Health, Francisco Sucre, despite being a ad-honorem technical advisory position.

“As the team was refreshing, we considered it responsible to make our positions available, however, this was not a commitment to a particular person, but to the country and we received the call from the president (Laurentino Cortizo), through the minister counselor, Eyra Ruíz, doctor Enrique Lau, and minister Luis Francisco Sucre, so that we could stay,” Sandoval explained.

According to the intensivist, the advisory team will be reorganized and working committees will be formed.

“I would like to emphasize that, in these moments of such severe crisis, I am not going to abandon the patients, nor the colleagues, I am going to continue to lead, cooperating with all the health authorities in decision-making and in what I However, I am going to focus more on patient care itself and on helping colleagues in patient management,” he said.

Sandoval reiterated that at no time does he intend to abandon the responsibility he acquired with the country, without conditions.

“We will work in an articulated and aligned way with the new Advisory Council, made up of three ministers of Health, the dean of the Faculty of Medicine and the minister counselor of health,” he said. ‘

The decision to unify both committees was made after a meeting held yesterday at the Minsa.

Given this, Dr. Javier Nieto, who is also part of said Committee, stated that it was decided to restructure the advisory group based on these thematic axes of work: epidemiological intelligence, communications, treatment and vaccines, protocols for patients and community care.

“This group will work in coordination with the Health Advisory Committee to avoid duplication of actions. Although some of us made our positions available for the potential inclusion of new actors, the authorities expressed their confidence in the work that has been done to date” he explained.

Nieto added that they are all conjunctural actors in an unprecedented situation in public health at the global level, in which there is no defined protocol for the solution of the current crisis, so “no one is left over.”

He added that “this restructuring by thematic axis begins with the current dissolution of the Technical Advisory Committee. Therefore, the convocation must be made through a ministerial resolution, which must be given soon.

APEDE ASKS THE GOVERNMENT FOR EFFECTIVE LEADERSHIP TO FACE THE PANDEMIC AND SUGGESTS AN OPENING BY REGION AND NOT BY BLOCKS

Commercial activity in the country is limited to opening by blocks and only two are operating.

The Panamanian Association of Business Executives (Apede) called on the Government to have effective leadership to face the effects of the coronavirus pandemic, and at the same time suggested that the economic reactivation be done safely by regions and not by blocks.

In a statement to the country, issued this Tuesday, June 30, Apede states that in view of the reality that the country is experiencing with a great affectation to public health by Covid-19, a compromised health system, exhausted health personnel and the economic effects that the crisis is leaving, it is necessary that the Executive take concrete actions to face the situation.

In view of this, Apede expresses the need for effective and comprehensive leadership by the National Government in the areas of health, economic and labor revival, and shows concern about the complaints due to lack of transparency and the great uncertainty generated by the abrupt separation of those who led the health, social development and housing agendas, as well as the changes in the team of advisors, ”is reflected in the document.

In the same way, it is expressed that a sanitary, social and economic action plan is required to save lives, protect jobs and recover the economy.

“In this sense, taking into account that according to data estimated by the Comptroller General of the Republic, the business sector generates 85% of the country’s jobs, Apede proposes the safe opening by regions and not by blocks for more interaction effective between companies, their clients and their suppliers”.

In addition, the business union recommends a comprehensive health and economic care plan for infected and family members in vulnerable areas to control the transmission of the virus.

After the absolute quarantine decreed by the administration of President Laurentino Cortizo, on March 25, the opening of the first two economic blocks has taken place. The start of activities of the third party is under evaluation.

BRAZIL AGREES TO HAVE 100 MILLION VACCINES AGAINST COVID-19

The Brazilian Government announced this Saturday an agreement that will allow it to acquire 100 million doses of the vaccine against the new coronavirus that has been undergoing experimentation by the University of Oxford, as well as to produce it in the country thanks to the transfer of technology.

“The agreement provides for the purchase of three batches of the vaccine, the first of which for delivery next December, as well as the transfer of technology so that we can produce it in the laboratories of the state-owned Fiocruz,” announced the Deputy Minister of Health, Elcio Franco, at a press conference.

The cooperation agreement in the technological development and access of Brazil to the vaccine was brokered by the Embassy of the United Kingdom in Brasilia and involves the Brazilian Government, the University of Oxford and the pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca.

According to scientists from the World Health Organization (WHO), the vaccine developed by the University of Oxford and AstraZeneca, which is already being tested in humans, even in Brazil, is the most advanced in the world in terms of development.

Franco clarified that everything agreed will depend on clinical trials showing that the vaccine is effective against COVID-19 and safe for the population, as well as compliance with the current schedule of those responsible for medicine, which initially foresees the end of the experiments in November and the start of production in December.

By the agreement, Brazil will assume, with the risk that the efficacy of the product is not finally demonstrated, part of the development costs of the vaccine, initially $ 127 million, of which $ 30 million related to technology transfer.

Such investment will allow the vaccine to start being produced this year in the laboratories of the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz), the largest health research center in Latin America and responsible for most of the vaccines developed by Brazil.

In the first of the two stages provided for in the agreement, Brazil will have at its disposal a first batch of 15.2 million doses of the vaccine in December 2020 and a second batch of 15.2 million until January 15, 2021.

In the second stage, once the efficacy and safety of the vaccine has been demonstrated, Brazil will have another 70 million doses of the vaccine, at a value of $ 2.30 per unit.

Part of such vaccines will be produced by Fiocruz which, with the transfer of technology and license, will be able to start producing the immunizer autonomously.

The vice minister of Health explained that the first batches of the vaccine will be offered to the population at risk and sent to the regions that are currently facing the highest proportion of infections.

“The Oxford vaccine is the most promising in the world and the most developed at the moment. This vaccine is already in phase three of the clinical trials (massively experimented),” according to the Brazilian Deputy Minister of Health.

“With the transfer of technology we will have autonomy for production and we will eliminate the exorbitant profit margins that we have seen during the pandemic with medical products,” he added.

The Oxford vaccine began to be tested last week in Brazil, the second country in the world with the most victims of COVID-19, with nearly 56,000 deaths, and with the most infected, with almost 1.3 million confirmed cases.

It has also been tested in the United Kingdom, the United States and in two countries in Africa.

The experiments in Brazil with 2,000 volunteers are coordinated by the Reference Center for Special Immunobiologicals (CRIE) of the Federal University of Sao Paulo (Unifesp) and financially supported by the Lemann Foundation, from the Brazilian billionaire Jorge Paulo Lemann.

TEACHERS WILL HAVE TWO WEEKS OF SCHOOL ORGANIZATION FROM JULY 6

The Minister of Education, Maruja Gorday de Villalobos reported this Monday, June 29, that on July 6 the two weeks of school organization will begin so that teachers are prepared and to resume classes remotely on July 20.

In addition, she made an analysis of what has been this first year of government in the educational sector, which by 2020, has had to face the COVID-19 pandemic.

And it was that only a week had passed since the start of the school year, when it was interrupted by the health crisis of COVID-19.

Only some schools in the private sector were able to continue teaching. The minister said that the impact has been of “challenges and challenges”, because at this time of crisis many resources have been generated, such as printed materials, developments in platforms and teacher training. However, the biggest challenge will be to strengthen distance education from July 20. For the education process, the Ester platform will be used, which was presented days ago by the President of the Republic, Laurentino Cortizo.

The head of Education indicated that the Ester platform starts for twelfth grade students who are the ones who are about to leave and will have virtual learning objects. Recently, the minister announced that the 2020 school year would end in December.

The great challenge is that this platform can reach the largest number of students in the country. Gorday de Villalobos indicated that it is true that in this first phase vulnerable groups are being targeted to provide them with laptops and later the equipping of students from other grades will be carried out. Furthermore, the strengthening of internet coverage is being advanced to guarantee education.
