You, are a liar.  The stigma of being branded a liar is intense and for some, it’s seemingly unbearable.  We’ve all caught people in boldface, flat out lies.  It’s curious though that when we call them out on it, their reaction is for them to refute it only to flip it around questioning YOUR integrity by asking, How dare you call me a liar!?”.  What I find fascinating is how, in one way or another, everyone is a liar.  That doesn’t mean that you’re not necessarily a good person, it just means that every now and again, for one reason or another, you’re forced into a situation where you can’t tell the truth.  Sometimes, you lie unintentionally.  “Mom, you said that if I did my homework, I could watch TV tonight!”.  Yes, Mom did say that, but Mom wasn’t taking in to consideration that said homework wasn’t going to be done until 11PM; waaaaay past your bedtime, young man!

We all lie every day.  I’ve been reading Stephen King again lately and he refers to different kind of lies in his books including a “Black Lie”.  I’ve heard of “Little White Lies”, but I actually had to look up “Black Lies” just to be sure I didn´t take anything out of context.  A black lie is when the deceiver tries to gain something at the cost of the deceived; it’s out of self-interest.  The white lie is when the deceiver intends on pleasing the deceived through affiliative deception.  “No dear, your ass does NOT look fat in those huge neonorange spandex.”

But what’s the root of any lie?  Why do we bother to lie when “The truth shall set you free”, John 8:32?  The bottom line, the root of all lies is fear.  Sure, you may be thinking to yourself, “I ain´t afraid of nuthin’!”  The fact is, you are.  With white lies, we’re afraid to hurt the other person’s feelings.  With black lies, well, there are multiple reasons to be afraid.  I need to sell this crap car and pay my mortgage before they take my house away.  I don’t want to go to jail.  I want to protect my family.  Etc…  Sometime lies are honorable and sometimes they’re a disgrace.  Depending on the professional you consult with, lies could be broken down into 5-12 different categories.  These are how I categorize the different forms of lies.

Fabrication – these are deliberate.  Sometimes the deceiver had time to think it out and plan the lie.  Many times, though, the lie is made up on the spot and are usually easier to detect if you’re prepared to listen for the lie.

Error – unintentional.  The person intends on tell a truth, but unknowingly offers a lie.

Opinionated – confuses their feelings for truth.  “My son is a good boy, he would never hurt a fly!”, oh but little Billy did hurt flies; Billy hurt a lot of things in his life, but his mother refuses to see it.

Omission – also known as “partial truths”, the deceiver intentionally leaves out relevant facts, to create an alternative account.  The part that they did say, isn’t a lie; it’s passive deception.

False News
False News

Several colleagues and others I know, recently posted similar photographs of a certain box of a certain quality of mask used to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus.  The box clearly states “THIS PRODUCT IS AN EAR LOOP MASK.  THIS PRODUCT IS NOT A RESPIRATOR AND WILL NOT PROVIDE ANY PROTECTION AGAINST COVID-19 OR VIRUSES OR CONTAMINENTS.”  It continues explaining “Wearing an ear loop mask does not reduce the risk of contracting any disease or infection.  User is solely responsible for the selection of appropriate personal protective equipment for the setting and application.  Change immediately if contaminated.”

Many have taken this to mean that none of the masks on the market are any good against the Coronavirus and some have done so purposefully attempting to deceive the gullible.  I’d like to think that my friends and colleagues wouldn’t fall for this, but they apparently have.  (Unless I’m in denial about their credibility and they, too, knowingly passed along deceitful information; I hope not.)  If the wearer of the mask has the virus, these masks help to lessen the spread of the virus.  If you do NOT have the virus, are your intention is to avoid becoming infected, there are other grades of masks for that.  There’s a clear difference and if the reader weren’t biased, they would be able to clearly understand the caveat/instructions.  If you don’t feel sick, it doesn’t mean that you’re not a carrier of the virus.  Airlines are handing these out to passengers to mitigate the possible spread of someone who may have it, but show no signs (as well as those who have it, know they have it, don’t disclose it and don’t care about the health of others.)  This is omission as the box says, “…does not reduce the risk of contracting…”.  The originator of the message knows that this product is meant to contain the spread, not to avoid contamination of the user; they knowingly use this to deceive the reader into believing that all masks are useless.

Restructuring—distorting the context. Saying something in sarcasm, changing the characters, or the altering the scene.  I do that all the time in my articles.  I assure you that my son Brandon is NOT a Ninja, for example, regardless of what you may have read from the Mikkelson universe.  But when related to a serious topic, it could have devastating circumstances.  In the movie, “My cousin Vinny”, Vinny (Joe Pesci), an inexperienced lawyer, goes to help his nephew Billy (Ralph Macchio) who’s been wrongfully accused of murder.  In one scene, Sherriff Farley informs Billy that he killed the store worker and Billy responds incredulously, “I killed him!?!??!”.  When the evidence was presented to the court and the prosecutor asked the sheriff to testify, the sheriff tells them “When I told the defendant, ‘you killed the man.’, he responded simply, ‘I killed him.’”, changing the tone as well as the context of the conversation, or “restructuring” it.

Denialknowingly refusing to acknowledge a truth. Sometimes denial isn’t deliberate due to the psychological impact caused by a certain event.  The death of a child could bring someone to enter a sort of automated denial; not wanting to believe it truly happened.  Losing a job and telling your spouse the truth, is no easy task.

Minimization—reducing the effects of a mistake, a fault, or a judgment call.  There’s a big difference between human error and human “on purpose”.  Some kids get punished for both, so they never learn that it’s ok to make mistakes and are inherently conditioned to believe that they’re one in the same.   Kid breaks a vase, blames the sister because they’re worried about the repercussions for their accident.

Exaggeration—representing as greater, better, more experienced, more successful.  Certain world leaders tend to lie primarily in this fashion.  I won’t delve too deeply in to that; this isn’t a political post. And the problems that arise from this type of behavior can be YUUUGE!!!  I will say however, nobody knows how to resolve these kinds of problems better than me.  Just ask anyone, they’ll tell you the same.  Everyone else sucks; I’m the best!

Pathological – known by some as mythomania or pseudologia fantastica.  The subject will lie about everything; their world is a total fantasy.  This is a chronic behavior of compulsive or habitual lying. It’s a falsification entirely disproportionate to any discernible end in view.  You’d think that a pathological liar does so for no apparent reason, but the underlying reason is the same as for anyone else that lies.  They’re afraid.  Usually fueled by a low self-esteem, the pathological liar does not want to be discovered as being the lesser person.  They need people to think that they (or their closest friends) are heroes or depending on circumstances, the victim.  If the lies are just occasionally represented, then it’s possibly just exaggeration.

I’ll take a pause there.  Tomorrow, I’ll talk about how to find the truth.

And now, finally some GOOD news!

TOP NEWS and TIDBITS

IMPORTANT TIDBIT – POSITIVE NEWS

Starting on Monday, Block 2 of businesses is going to open up.  But even better news yet, the mandatory total quarantine is over.  Instead, there will be a curfew from 7:00p.m. to 5:00a.m.  Children will still be slightly restricted, but will be able to leave out of the house accompanied by an adult from 4:00p.m. to 7:00p.m.  Both men and women will be able to leave out during the hours of 5AM to 7PM every day of the week (yes, Sunday as well).

MINSA ANNOUNCES OPENING OF BLOCK 2 OF ACTIVITIES FROM JUNE 1

The Executive ordered the reactivation of the construction of public works, non-metallic mining and industries, starting next Monday, June 1.

Temples, parks and sports and social areas may also open, but only use 25% of their capacity and keeping the distance of two meters between people. All these activities have been suspended since last March 25, when the total curfew came into effect, decreed by the Executive, in the face of the coronavirus pandemic, which until Tuesday had caused 313 deaths in Panama.

This was communicated on the night of this Tuesday, May 26, at the conclusion of the Cabinet Council in the Presidency of the Republic. The measure was announced by the ministers Rosario Turner, of Health, and Ramón Martínez, of Commerce and Industries. With them were Doris Zapata and Juan Pino, ministers of Labor and Security.

In addition, a relaxation was announced in the quarantine that was established in the country due to the pandemic caused by Covid-19. The curfew will now be 7:00 p.m. at 5:00 a.m. The restricted departure, of two hours, by gender and ID number is eliminated. There will also be no total quarantine on Sundays (from Sunday June 7).

Children can circulate from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., with their parents or guardians. The use of the mask is mandatory.

This flexibility does not include participation in social, cultural, festive group activities, visits to beaches, contact sports, or any other that does not comply with physical distance.

The administration of President Laurentino Cortizo elaborated an economic revival plan, divided into six blocks. The first of these was reactivated on May 13, and includes retail e-commerce, mechanical and spare parts workshops, technical services, aquaculture and artisanal fishing.

The Health Minister calculated that the lives of some 6,000 people have been saved, thanks to the quarantine. The reopening is possible due to the low rate of contagion, the capacity of the health system and the number of tests carried out (60 thousand 598 until this Tuesday, May 26).

The curfew is relaxed and the reopening of block 2 is authorized, starting Monday, June 1

Ramón Martínez, Minister of Commerce and Industries. Courtesy

There is no date for the reopening of block 3. Minister Martínez indicated that this will depend on the behavior of blocks 1 and 2. He also specified that as of June 1, the use of safe conducts will not be necessary for workers in the activities contemplated in blocks 1 and 2.

The Minister of Labor referred to the formation of health committees, mandatory for all companies that want to reopen. Each committee should have from 2 to 6 members, depending on the size of its list. Businesses with more than 41 workers must have a six-person health committee.

These committees must guarantee that the personnel have personal protective equipment (mask, gel), follow suspected cases of contagion, identify high-risk areas and maintain the confidentiality of all information, among other functions.

Block 3 includes construction in the private sector, retail (in shopping malls) and wholesale, car sales, professional services (beauty salons, car washes) and administrative services.

Brett’s comments:  This is a bit unusual.  It’s great that we’re advancing with the opening of some businesses and it’s great that we’re going to be able to move around freely as well.  Everything should be through careful measure.  There are a few things here that don’t make sense.  As a friend of mine just wrote, “So, you’re telling me that we can go to church, but we can’t go to Novey?”  Hardware stores are still closed to the public, churches open for massive congregations, still only 50 per supermarket, kids can only go out from 4-7pm, so they’re not going to be able to go to church on Sunday morning…  and what about the salvoconductos?  No longer needed at all?  Boy, that sure was a lot of fuss and headaches just for a few weeks of a salvoconducto.  I’ll bet Sandra Sandoval and the guy who got in trouble for giving her a safe passage last Sunday feel REALLY stupid right now.

COMPANIES MUST HAVE APPROVAL FROM THE MINSA, MICI AND MITRADEL TO OPEN

The Minister of Health, Rosario Turner, said that the companies will have to coordinate with the Minsa, the Mitradel and the Mici in order to reopen their doors.

Faced with pressure from different sectors for the government to decree the opening of the second block of the “new normal”, the Ministry of Health (Minsa) indicated that, for this, companies will have two options. The Minister of Health, Rosario Turner, said that for the opening process companies will have the options of having the Healthy Panama seal, which includes validating the process established by the Ministry and the Ministry of Labor and Labor Development or opening with all security measures through the ministries of Commerce and Industries and Health.

“The issue of blocks is evaluated every 14 days, not only the RT, but also the installed capacity of the country’s health system, plus the ability to take samples,” Turner said, while adding that “all this serves to do recommendations for opening blocks “.

He also explained that each Tuesday the indicators are weighted and after the 14 days, the blocks that have been planned to make the necessary adjustments are evaluated.

“Normality will be progressive, gradual, but asymmetric, since if in any region of the country the indicators are not favorable, it will not open, since it is everyone’s responsibility,” he emphasized.

On the other hand, the Minister of Public Works, Rafael Sabonge, yesterday delivered to the Administration attorney, Rigoberto González, the report of the proposal made by the company China Construction America (CCA) on the donation of modular internal divisions to the Convention Center Amador for the attention of COVID-19. Sabonge answered a seven-question questionnaire and reported that he received a WhatsApp message from the Minister of Tourism with the aforementioned proposal. He explained that as a result of this, a meeting was coordinated with the representative of the CCA company, but when the Albrook Modular Hospital was already 30% complete. He added that the said hospital was to serve patients in intensive care and that the Chinese proposal was for people under observation. And he concluded that Minsa was not consulted, because there was never a formal proposal. Meanwhile, after visiting the San Miguel Arcángel Hospital, Turner announced the transfer of $ 2 million and the delivery of 200 serological tests to this center to combat COVID-19. San Miguelito is one of the most hit areas in the country by COVID-19.

DOUBTS PERSIST ABOUT THE OPENING BLOCK IN WHICH THE SHOPPING CENTERS ARE LOCATED

Approximately 3,000 stores in shopping malls have closed

The economic impact of COVID-19 in shopping malls is incalculable, as stated on Tuesday May 26 by Nadji Duque, the representative of this sector at the economic table that seeks to reactivate activities in the country. For Duque, there is a concern because they are not clear in which block the shopping centers are located. Approximately 3 thousand shops that make up the shopping centers are closed and about 40 thousand jobs under the contract suspension modality. Despite this, only supermarkets, banks and pharmacies remain within the shopping centers, which carries operating expenses for maintenance, security and cleaning, at times when they are not receiving income. He clarified that the shopping centers were created so that people made their purchases in comfort and in a safe place. He said that there are still some doubts because, although they think they are included in block 3, related to retail purchases, by the Ministry of Health (Minsa) they have not heard a statement. He added that consulting the Ministry of Commerce (MICI) they confirmed that they are in block 3, however, they believe that it is necessary for the health authorities to make the clarification. Meanwhile, according to the new normality, some measures will be followed to avoid crowds, including eliminating massive events. Other changes are adjustments of chairs for distance, requiring the use of a mask, temperature measurement, signs and posters in bathrooms, stairs and alcohol gel dispensers so that buyers feel safe and in accordance with sanitary measures.

BUSINESSMEN ASK FOR DATES AND CLEAR PROCEDURES FOR GRADUAL REOPENING

The Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture of Panama (CCIAP) stated in its Sunday communiqué La Cámara Opina, that it is concerned about the “lack of clarity” of the schedule for reopening the following blocks of economic activities without definite dates. The business union has indicated that it is in favor of the gradual reopening of economic sectors that allows it to maintain and generate jobs, however, it fears a social crisis due to the affectation of the pandemic. With each passing day, CCIAP warned, the possibility of sustaining hundreds of jobs is affected due to the closure of businesses.

He also denounced the lack of an articulated plan that coordinates the needs of the various sectors impacted. “We understand the reasons for caution to proceed to an opening that protects this new normal, and we are in favor of it being done in a responsible way. However, we must also take care that, from the health and economic emergency, it does not fall into a social crisis due to the growing impact that the pandemic has caused, “said CCIAP. In addition, the union asked the authorities to avoid bureaucratic procedures that may generate more restrictions and costs for business. For its part, the Panamanian Association of Business Executives (Apede) demanded clear procedures from the National Government for a gradual reopening. According to this union, the protocols established by the Ministry of Labor and Labor Development (Mitradel) are complicated and do not guarantee what they are looking for, since they allow for some considerations that are not related to the mitigation of COVID-19 contagion.

“We must work on adaptable and generic sanitary guides, since only companies and their workers understand the reality of their environment, as the Ministry of Health has stated. On these guides, companies will be responsible for establishing protocols that comply with these guidelines. It is illogical that criteria of social interaction or percentages are established, without considering the spaces of the companies, the level of risk by type of activity, the minimum number of collaborators required to operate safely and effectively or clearly understand the processes. productive and operational “, indicated Apede.

The Apede also said that they are concerned that companies with more than 51 workers are forced to hire an occupational safety professional to evaluate the hygiene protocol, since there are not enough qualified professionals in this field and with the fall of demand, companies are not able to hire staff, he argued. Panama began last May 13 its gradual reactivation of economic activities with the reopening of electronic commerce, mechanical workshops and spare parts, technical services such as plumbers, electricians, air conditioning maintenance, elevators, pool maintenance, artisanal fishing and aquaculture. industrial.

GOVERNMENT RELAXES SANITARY RULES FOR THE REOPENING OF SMALL BUSINESSES

To restart operations, these companies will not need to have a specific committee or protocols. The Ministry of Labor and Labor Development (Mitradel) modified the resolution that requires companies to create a committee and protocols to restart operations. Given the need to create safe spaces for job development in companies after the gradual reopening of some economic sectors, companies have been asked to create health and hygiene committees and protocols to prevent the spread of Covid-19 and the safety of workers, employers and customers. These standards, based on Mitradel’s legal obligation, for the preservation of hygiene and health in workplaces, seek that companies can produce adequately without the risk of contagion of Covid-19 in their facilities, which that would help prevent a greater social and economic impact. The Mitradel, the Minsa and the Social Security Fund will provide guidance and inspection in the task of building the health and hygiene committees and protocols for the prevention and care of Covid-19, according to Ministerial Resolution DM-155-2020. For the purposes of reopening, the company does not need to have a committee and protocols. This will have the necessary time to create, record and implement health requirements with the support of the authorities. For companies that have more than 51 collaborators, it is necessary to prepare and represent the responsibility plan of professionals specialized in occupational health or risk prevention, engineers with master’s degrees in occupational hygiene and safety, industrial risk prevention and occupational safety. For the ease of users, the process will be carried out through the page www.panamadigital.gob.pa or by accessing the link available at  www.mitradel.gob.pa.

BUSINESSMEN CRITICIZE THE PROCEDURES FOR REOPENING

Employers request that any changes or additional conditions to the guidelines be consulted with the different agents and presented at the economic labor table. After the opening of the first block of economic activities in the country, the businessmen claim that they have been preparing for the next ones. For the reopening, a series of protocols and requirements were ordered, which, according to the businessmen, become “bureaucratic procedures” that limit the restart.

“In principle, there was talk of a voluntary certification that companies could obtain through an initiative called Healthy Panama, which is welcome, but if it is voluntary and not put it as a requirement with a higher standard,”

claimed the President of the Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture of Panama, Jean-Pierre Leignadier in a virtual interview.

“Companies have been preparing based on the guidelines established by the Ministry of Health,”

he said, but insisted that clarity is necessary.

“What we are asking is that companies can proceed with the opening and that any changes or additional conditions to the guidelines are consulted with the different agents and presented at the economic labor table,” said Leignadier.

For example, he recalled that when the first block was opened, companies had been preparing according to the given guidelines, but when the opening decree came out, which was the same day the block was released, additional conditions were established. Similarly, he referred to the need for the government to have an economic team that supports companies, after more than two months of being closed.

“It is not clear how companies can access the funds, there is no clear economic stimulus plan,” he added.

Protocols For the return to normality after Covid-19, companies must develop a protocol or guidelines for health and safety according to the economic sector. These guidelines will be made taking into account the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health (Minsa). In the case of restaurants and bars, one of the measures that must be followed in its protocol is to keep the doors open in those environments where it is possible to appoint a staff to do so, in order to avoid that the doors are manipulated by customers. Companies must create a special health and hygiene committee for the prevention and care of Covid-19, which will be made up of a minimum of two and a maximum of six workers, depending on the size of the company. This committee will be in charge of reviewing compliance with the protocols and guides issued by the authorities related to the control of the Covid-19; to monitor compliance with all measures determined by the company to guarantee the health of workers and visitors. For example, keep a distance of 2 meters between each job, or staggered lunch shifts to avoid crowds. Establish a mechanism to timely detect symptomatic and asymptomatic workers, among others.

“Whoever organizes the committee must have the basic knowledge of occupational safety to give the necessary guidelines. The other members must be given respective training, ”according to a guide.

A cleaning brigade must be created, made up of personnel designated by the employer, who will be in charge of keeping all the areas of the company clean.

Other measures for the restoration of activities, is to establish special hours and restriction of the number of people so that the physical distance measurement of two meters between workers is kept. You must fill out the form with the basic requirements for compliance with the guidelines for the return to normality of post-Covid-19 companies and submit it through the Panama Digital platform. After this procedure, the review of the Ministry of Labor and Labor Development (Mitradel) and the Minsa will be expected, which will evaluate the documents and then go on to the certification phase. This procedure will be done through inspections of the Minsa, which will finally issue the “Healthy Panama” seal. The Panamanian Association of Business Executives had criticized Sunday that companies with more than 51 workers had to hire an occupational safety professional to evaluate the hygiene and safety protocol.

Yesterday, through resolution 155-220 of May 25, 2020, the Mitradel established that in companies with less than 51 workers, the plan may be drawn up and endorsed by the manager or the person in charge of human resources of the company, while in Companies with more than 51 workers will be able to do professionals specialized in occupational health, engineers with master’s degrees in occupational health and hygiene or industrial risk prevention, as well as professionals who have developed the specialty in occupational health and safety within the company. Reactions Felipe Rodríguez, general manager of Felipe Rodríguez S.A and president of the Competitiveness Center of the Western Region, ensures that all the procedures for the reopening of the companies are very complex.

“Many small businesses may have trouble complying with all of these regulations,” he said.

On the other hand, more and more rules are coming out. Authorities should put themselves in the position of companies, especially those with less capacity, as too much is being demanded, he said. He says that, in order to open the workshops, he had to comply with several protocols, including risk management, health protocols, and the emergency protocol. This plus other requirements were forwarded to Mitradel, then it passed to the Minsa that sent the auditors and verified that all the regulations were being complied with. In the case of the smaller companies that have less capacity, I am not asking for the requirements to be lowered, but to be helped to do so, he argued. Capac requests parallel opening of the entire sector The Panamanian Chamber of Construction (Capac) asked the authorities to open blocks 2 and 3 of sectors of economic activity in parallel in the reactivation. In block 2 of activities is construction, but only public works, while private construction would begin operating in the third phase. At the moment, there is no official confirmation on the start of each of these stages. The president of the union, Jorge Lara, said that “it would be prudent to reopen in parallel” and that this has been made known to the authorities.

“We have to respect the guidelines given by the Ministry of Health, but we have requested a pre-opening to start giving maintenance to the equipment. It is not about everyone going back to work right away, but it is a way of reducing uncertainty, of being able to start giving maintenance, registering our hygiene committees and starting to train personnel, ”said Lara.

The president of the union pointed out that what they are asking for is not only the reopening of private construction, but the rest of the activities in block three. The union announced yesterday that, due to the limitations imposed by the pandemic, its Capac Expo Habitat fair in 2020 will be this year through a virtual platform and will be held between September 15 and 25.

PANAMA EXCLUDES HYDROXYCHLOROKIN AND AZITROMYCIN FROM ITS TREATMENT

The research, the largest to date on the use of this medicine, took into account 96 thousand patients.
The research, the largest to date on the use of this medicine, took into account 96 thousand patients.

The Ministry of Health (Minsa) today decided to withdraw the use of hydroxychloroquine, chloroquine and azithromycin from the protocols for the care of patients with Covid-19 disease.

This was reported by the infectologist-pediatrician and member of the Advisory Committee for Covid-19 of the Minsa, Javier Nieto, after the scientific evidence produced by a study published by the medical journal The Lancet.

The research, the largest to date on the use of this medicine, took into account 96 thousand patients in 671 hospitals worldwide and showed no benefit in the infected hospitals.

Nieto added the main medical contradiction of these drugs are associated with cardiac arrhythmias that could lead to death.

Meanwhile, the World Health Organization (WHO), after seeing the results of the study, decided to temporarily suspend the use of hydroxychloroquine in Covid-19 patients. of its clinical trial called “Solidarity”, in which Panama also participates.

Although a temporary pause of the hydroxychloroquine arm has been implemented within the global clinical trial, the other planned drugs will continue to be tested.

MEANS USED TO TEACH CLASSES WILL BE EVALUATED BY MEDUCA

The authorities of the Ministry of Education (Meduca) are carrying out –during this week– a consultation with parents to find out if their children use media such as television, radio, technological platforms or instant messaging systems to access educational content that teachers assign to them.

Two weeks ago, Meduca began teaching classes on radio and television, while some schools have opted to use technological platforms to reach their students.

Meduca authorities explained that, to participate, parents can enter the site www.meduca.gob.pa, where the form is posted, to enter their data. With this, the entity seeks to facilitate communication channels between home and school. Through a press release, Meduca explained that, in addition, it seeks to verify how the interaction of students with teachers develops and the reinforcement of subjects with the “Connect with the star” program. In turn, it will be verified if that contact has been achieved student, school and home.

The director of Media Education of the Meduca, Isis Núñez, indicated that the same consultation will be made to teachers and directors of official schools, later.

At the time, Núñez expressed that the use of radio and television channels seeks that students can have access to the learning of the fundamental topics of the official curriculum.

He added that, until now, an exact date to resume the face-to-face classes is unknown, which were suspended on March 10, after the first case of Covid-19 disease in the country was confirmed.

Making a Bird-bath
Making a Bird-bath

We made a birdbath recently.  The mix we used was 3 parts sand, 1 part cement and then added water a little at a time for consistency.  I wasn’t expecting the first one to come out all that great, but sometimes I even surprise myself.

Step one was to build a mound out of dirt, packing it down and smoothing it out.  Then a piece of plastic (we selected a used garbage bag) over the top of the mound.  As decoration, we used a large leaf from the garden that one of the dogs (or maybe even I) knocked over; this gives design to the inside of the bowl.  Mix your portion of cement and place over the top of your dirt-plastic-leaf concoction.  Using gloves, give it form ensuring the now inverted bowl has the same consistency throughout.  Make sure your dogs don’t step in it for attention like mine did and then wait 24 hours for it to cure.  For the base, I used a chunk of wood that we got when we had to chop up our dead avocado tree.

We already had all of the ingredients already at the house from previous projects.  It was just a matter of putting it all together.

What are you doing to stay busy?  Let me know!

Stay safe…  Stay healthy…  And by all means STAY HOME!!…
